While that's not a bad idea, the Cox-Meredith co-op agreement does not include joint negotiations for retrans or reverse comp, with Meredith Local Media president Paul Karpowicz stating that bringing up such an option made their lawyers "twitchy". However, I'm not sure how such a negotiation agreement on those two avenues could be legally "quagmirous" (I'll create that word for this occasion), since A) the agreement as structured without a retrans-reverse comp negotiating arrangement doesn't include their respective Atlanta stations (which may be their only conflict market, correct me if I'm wrong, and B) the FCC's crackdown on joint negotiations for retrans and reverse comp focuses mainly on such deals involving commonly operated stations in the same market.

Karpowicz is quick to point out that the co-op isn't a sign that the merger with Media General is dead or that it signals a future merger between Meredith and Cox, and that the Media General stations would be folded into the co-op if the merger goes through. Although are there any markets where MG and Cox both have stations where they would have to exempt them from the co-op?

Just Dayton (WDTN/WBDT for MG, WHIO for Cox).

J. Stewart Bryan III, Media General Chairman of the Board and former CEO, passed away Saturday. Very unfortunate, considering the future ownership of his company hangs in the balance between Meredith and Nexstar. I purposely made a double posting, and placed this information under the Nexstar bids for MG thread, but felt it was appropriate to place it under the Out and About catch-all thread.

Here's the story of Bryan and his passing from the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

WIVB chief meteorologist Don Paul will be retiring when his contract ends in March. Former Weather Channel and NBC Weather Plus meteorologist Todd Santos, who came on board a couple of years ago, will be replacing him.

http://talkintv.buffalonews.com/2016/01/25/ch-4-meteorologist-don-paul-expected-to-announce-retirement-on-6-p-m-newscast/

Didn't really watch Channel 4 a whole lot when I lived in Buffalo, but that's a big loss for them.

Lynda Martin is going back to XETV to fill the morning seat vacated by Heather Myers. A seat that Lynda held before Heather Myers. This makes it the third time around at XETV for Lynda.

http://www.sandiegoradio.org/2016/01/familiar-face-returning-to-cw-6-morning.html?m=1

Let's see how long she lasts this time around. It was clear that Heather's departure really caused them a lot of problems and left a huge void to fill. Not sure why it took them a month and a half to decide to bring her back.

And the loss of the ND had no effect?

Just saying...

BTW when you require a piss test to work as a production part-timer on a split shift you can bet those positions will remain unfilled.

Just sayin....again.

Note to Lynda...

Stay off the company computers if you are going to view porn during work hours this time around...

Just sayin.......again.

Probably to a certain extent, but her departure actually made the problem worse since they were short-staffed in the first place. Every station in town has a capable backup anchor to fill-in, except for XETV. The women that were filling in (with the exception of Neda) really have no business behind the desk. Not exactly anchor material. And it's very telling when they use Susana Franco and Brooke Landau very sparingly.

According to FTVLive Jose Diaz-Balart was named as the Saturday Nightly News anchor. His social media pages listed it for a few weeks but this was the first time a news oriented website mentioned it.

Don't get too excited (I know you're high on JDB). It says he's been named "a Saturday evening anchor", not as "the Saturday evening anchor". Also, this just looks like a mass press release by the talent agency representing him as there is other info that is months old in there.

According to this tweet from him he was.

I'm not sure I'd read too much into that. How else would he respond?: "Yes, thank you very much Ryan! FYI I am only part of the rotation of Saturday night anchors."

Other things mentioned in that press release on FTVLive.com:

*Stephanie Abrams was named co-anchor of AMHQ. This actually happened on November 8 (and was announced earlier).

*Nic Roberston named CNN International Diplomatic Editor. A simple google search will show you this happened back in September 2015.

*Kala Rama named WPIX weekend anchor. This actually happened back in December.

There are a bunch more, and some of them happened earlier this month while others happened last fall. I think they were just stating what was announced back in November, that he is part of the rotation, hence the "a" instead of a "the" in the press release.

Also, when Kate was announced as the Sunday anchor, many more outlets reported this, not just FTVLive.

So unless another website posts about him being named Saturday NN anchor it isn't authentic? SMH

TVNewsCheck posted within the hour that WKBW will be adding weekend morning newscasts.

The new shows will be aired both from 6-7am, and again from 8-9am on both days. GMA will be aired live at 7am. This will go in effect on February 27th.

Lucky Ducks!

That show will be heavy with weather...but the lead story will most always be a community 5k fun run or some other insipid event. All the "B" and "C" string reporters will clamor to fill-in anchor that show...on Easter. and Christmas the stations cleaning lady will anchor. Breaking news will be stringer video of an overnight car crash. Expect to see repeats of packages that ran during the week with NO script updates.

You may ask how I can be so clairvoyant????.

Beside the fact I'm a friggin mind reader???

Scripps does it exactly that way in San Diego every weekend morning.

Natasha Zouves once anchored one of those boring shows...and she is now a big-time anchorette at KGO in Frisco.

...and I said "Frisco" just to piss people off.

I didn't say that, I just pointed that out in addition to a bunch of other things, like the fact that other items are months old in that same article. It was probably the formal announcement that he is part of the rotation. FTV Live is more of a gossip and rumor site (many of which turn out to be true).

Last year, KB had two meteorologists and one news anchor and made it even more weather-heavy. It didn't work.

KOVR's new Special Event logo for the Super Bowl 50 And the grammys.

Is this during news programming, Primetime or syndicated?

I wonder if this will be a mandate and how will WJZ integrate it. When Colbert's show launched their countdown during news looked awkward compare to their sister stations.

Its used during news and promos. 3 CBS O&Os are doing it at the moment:

WBBM, KOVR and KPIX.

Came across this mildly amusing video on Facebook. Would have filed it in a CBS 2 thread but the one there was locked.

Apparently this is becoming a regular thing. WLS earlier this month...
