The best synergys just happen, you can't force them. KNSD will continue to kiss LA's ass just because some KNSD folks would like jobs at KNBC.

Wanna know who was the all-time worst NBC station in the entire network to deal with?????

KRON

I swear the network news division had a going away party for KRON at Los Arcos restaurant in Burbank....but they forgot to invite anyone from KRON.

Sorry...

I completely messed up the quotes so it's hard to tell what I wrote.

I will learn one of these days..

I see. I still remember when Austell was doing traffic for 8 how they would do more "community involvement" with the chopper. It's been downhill ever since. I get it's a big expense, but if you're going to boast about being the "only chopper" in town, then they need to do a better job. I remember when you mentioned several months ago that Chopper 8/pilot wasn't available to cover the story involving the two elderly people who got lost leaving a casino and ultimately were found stuck in a remote area of SD County. KFMB takes too many things for granted, and thus does not step up their game. The irony is that their best days of covering news was in the mid to late 90s when they weren't #1 in ratings.

KFMB was late in the chopper game. Sky 10 debuted in 1976 or so and KCST launched in 1979 . There used to be a 100 foot tall water tower where the 52 and 163 now meet. On top of that tower someone spray painted "news 8 sucks 9-1-79", so only the choppers and aircraft from Miramar could see.

KFMB wanted so bad to be in the airborn news game that they made a promo campaign for both TV and newspaper ads that included this shot.

Who's helo is this????

It's a Bell 47 from "Joes Whirlybird Rentals" They never mention it in the promo....it's just there like a big pink kitty.

I actually think they stole it from in front of the supermarket after kicking a few kiddies off the ride.754567518_News8Chopper.jpg.b3d7adf7b29b9e74b024b62e76a05d79.jpg

ha ha ha, that's awesome. Nice find. It does stick out, that's for sure.

I noticed that they were still in the rented chopper, and last night at 6:30 during the last traffic report, they were flying over downtown/coronado bridge during sunset... Beautiful.

Karen Campbell who has been freelancing (she's basically been a full timer but on a freelance contract) for the past year and a half for WBAL has been hired by WBFF. She's good and knows the region and I wondered why they didn't hire her when there was a job opening.

Indy biggest news anchor is out at WISH-TV8. Eric Halvorson is leaving at the end of the week. ( With Rumors of Nexstar buying MG it only a matter of time before the good folks at WISH leave for the competition. I see Eric & Debby together again at CBS 4 next year.)

I'm with you on that one. I give Cox the best shot at getting KUSI IMO.

I think KUSI fits hand and glove with Sinclair, even without a network affiliation. I would take it that the McKinnons would like to find an owner with similar intentions for the station if they were to sell, and I think Cox or Graham would take the conservative lean out of KUSI.

I think The McKinnons are going to keep KUSI in the family fold. I don't think they will sell San Diego and was surprise they sold their Texas shops.

Congrats to Sue Palka on 30 years this week of being chief meteorologist at FOX5. I've watched Sue ever since I could remember the names of on-air personalities on TV, and even through the 9-ish years I spent in North Carolina, I usually always checked her forecasts when things got crazy here in the DC-area!

of Las Vegas to focus on his career in real estate. Morgan Palmer will take the helm as Chief Meteorologist.

I don't get it. I have tried to watch KDAF's version, and it is just a mess, completely unwatchable. And yet the concept expands to other markets? >ugh<
Do you think traditional newscasts are going to stick around in the next decade or so seeing as how concepts like NewsFix suck?

As long as the traditionals aren't too inflexible or stodgy, yet don't go the wannabe-MTV News route, they should be around in some amount or form. Yes, we have computers and gadgets in which to get newsbits, but there should still be some viewer demand--and station owner desire--to have a televised local news presence.

NBC's jockeying for an O&O in Boston? This could get interesting. From what I've gathered Mr. Ansin is not likely to sell anytime soon...

I'm not quite sure what to think of the article's speculation about NECN getting NBC programming. It sounds so stupid - but then again, they do raise a point about the spectrum auction. I still don't see it happening unless NBC was really desperate though. As was pointed out, they could even try flipping WNEU to an English O&O. Stranger things have happened...

I wonder if Hearst would be willing to swap WCVB to NBC for WVIT plus cash. They already have a close relationship.

Good luck with that. WCVB has been ABC since Day 1 and is one of America's strongest ABC affiliates. In fact, Hearst has several including KOAT and WISN, among others.

Plus NBC would have to run WCVB as an ABC affiliate for 2 years, as their agreement with ABC doesn't end until December 2018 defeating the purpose of pulling their affiliation from WHDH.

If NBC leaves WHDH, the only options they have are 1) Subchannel or primary feed of WNEU, 2) purchase of either WMFP,WYDN or WWDP or 3) the unlikely scenario of going with NECN as the station. Not great options, but unlike Fox with WJZY, NBC already has a news presence in the Boston area, and will likely enter a "News Share" agreement with NECN for whichever option is chosen.

Plus, based on the wording of some of the contracts (particularly in sports with separate Cable/OTA partners), NBC may have to black out sports programming, the biggest portion of their viewership.

Based on all of these, NBC is just trying to get additional concessions from Ansin, with their only true option based on recent purchase history is moving NBC to WNEU, causing Telemundo to move to 60.2/WTMU-LP.

I don't think ABC would want to lose one of their best affiliates, plus they have a few years left on their contract with ABC/Disney. Hearst & ABC have such a strong relationship and CVB ratings have always been tops.

Ed doesn't like to sell, so again it 1988 all over again this time with WHDH. Ed needs some more station in his portfolio. If NBC wants Channel 7 I wonder if he could make a deal with Cox to get FOX 25 in the market.
