That's your problem then if you don't know about the issues going on in Hunt Valley

Just a suggestion, you should watch what you reply. There are posters here that work in the business that know far more about Sinclair than you do.

Not a formal announcement yet, but the article says it could happen within the next week.  Apollo is still the acquirer, but:

An agreement hasn't been reached and talks could still fall apart, the people said.

Hedge funds buying stations are never a good thing. Expect them to be resold within a year or two. Especially when they have zero interest or experience in running journalism.

Apollo clearly wants to be a serious player in broadcasting so what I think is happening is they're learning the mistakes Local TV, Newport and others made (which other than acquiring the original stations they didn't do a whole lot of buying) so this really isn't as big of a surprise as you might think. We'll see if it sticks though but so far all signs point towards Apollo acquiring TV stations beyond just this (and the Cox deal) there might be other deals down the road Apollo is taking a serious look at

Yeah......good idea. Then if they do break up the stations and sell them for the money, the next broadcast giant probably will be someone at least more tolerable.  😂😂

In all seriousness though, I think we better get comfortable seeing another broadcast group in the mix.

But just saying, Apollo DID try to buy Nexstar so they may be ballsy enough to someday do just that. But that's a huge leap of faith to assume that.

They may get at least some of the stations that were supposed to go to Standard (ie KOKH, WXLV) they may get the former Allbritton stations but beyond that it'd be the only thing that comes from Sinclair

The Deal is now on the Docket!!  MB Docket No. 19-30.

Anyone who wants to file a petition of deny, have until March 18 to file.

For oppositions of those deny petitions have until April 2 to file.

And for replies, you have to file them by April 9.

They have also granted Nexstar's request to waive Section 73.3518 of the Commission's rules to allow this deal to proceed. And that's because the applications relating to the now scuttled Sinclair-Tribune has yet to be acted by the ALJ.

Section 73.3518 states on the footnote:

Quote

47 CFR § 73.3518 (“While an application is pending, no subsequent inconsistent or conflicting application may be filed by or on behalf of or for the benefit of the same applicant, successor, or assignee.”).

Apollo Is Nearing Deal for Group of Nexstar Stations

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-13/apollo-is-said-to-be-nearing-deal-for-group-of-nexstar-stations

Somewhere in Hunt Valley, MD, David Smith is shaking with fury...

So they *didn’t* abandon the Nexstar acquisition.

Apollo was one of the bidders that wanted to acquire ALL of Tribune. But lost to Nexstar. But as soon as that deal was announced, many were speculating that Apollo could be a contender of Nexstar's spin-offs totalling about $1B.

Nexstar is divesting stations in more than 10 markets where there’s overlap with Tribune, including Hagerstown, Maryland; Portland, Oregon; and Indianapolis.

So Nexstar does not want to form a duopoly with KOIN and KRCW??!! Interesting.

I think we're reading too much into that (in particular Hagerstown/D.C. and Portland) those can form legal duopolies with no issues, it's the other 13 markets that Nexstar has to sell before gaining approval from the DOJ/FCC

How are we reading into it?  That quote is directly from the Bloomberg article. Unless Bloomberg has wrong info, then it seems pretty clear Nexstar wants to divest a station in Portland.

Just because it mentions all 15 markets that are overlapping doesn't mean that Nexstar has to sell in all 15 markets The Portland and Washington, D.C. duopolies are perfectly LEGAL!

It's markets like Salt Lake City, Indianapolis, Des Moines, and 10 other overlapping markets that Nexstar CANNOT have a duopoly, triopoly, etc. And thus, they have to sell

The Nexstar executives have been visiting the Tribune stations this month. You always know something important is happening when the station cleans the carpets.

You know something is up when the carpets are cleaned and all the water stained ceiling tiles get replaced!

Just because a duopoly is legal doesn't mean Nexstar has to keep both stations.

That's also true, Nexstar can do whatever they want to do with its 15 markets but do I expect Nexstar to sell KRCW and WDCW? Probably not they'd be foolish if they did.

But then again, stranger things have happened before so it's not a slam dunk by any means... yet.

Sounds like my years in the hotel business before a QA inspection.  Don't want to put any $$$ into the property or give a flippin' toss till they think they're going to flunk a QA inspection, and then, "oh we've gotta this, oh we've gotta that!!" >ugh!<
