The ESPN Thread

I wish Xfinity would put the ESPN channels all together. It baffles me how spread apart all of the sister networks are on their lineup.

It took FIOS a while to group all the ESPN channels together. Glad they are doing that with ESPN ACCN.  ESPN SEC was another issue for a while till they fixed that on FIOS. Hopefully, Xfinity and the other operators follow suit.. Thank God no Xfinity and Comcast in New York City and RCN is restricted to Manhattan and parts of Queens + Brooklyn only.

Hate to bump a stagnant thread but, SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt will be moving to Washington, D.C. in August.

And it'll share the same studio space as Pardon The Interruption as well.

Not sure if ESPN will renovate the current space in the current PTI to accomodate the SVP SportsCenter, build a seperate set for SVP or build an entire new set that will house both PTI and SportsCenter with SVP. We'll find out in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Although a bit late, but Cari Champion, formerly of First take, later SC: coast to coast, suddenly left the mothership. No word what led decision. That 12p shift (Bristol to LA) converts to regular SC solely based in CT.

Having the LA studio continues to make less and less sense for ESPN. They just cut back the amount of usage for their NBA coverage there this year, now they lost SC Coast to Coast.

It's basically only used for 4-5 late night SportsCenters per week, one or two days of NBA coverage per week, and I believe their daily show The Jump.

Just too many cuts with ESPN. Cari was a very good host. Enjoyed her Uber commercials with some of the best NBA elite.

I could see Maria Taylor being next to leave if cuts continue.

At this point get rid of the LA studio, and why even build a studio remotely to PTI in DC..

Good news is that some of that NBA coverage will return on Saturdays starting 1/18 beginning at 3:30, going into primetime on ABC and a late night game on ESPN.

ESPN's picked up some Korean baseball, airing nightly throughout the season. Of course their very first game is in a rain delay...

They appear to be using the MLB graphics for studio inserts, but in-game seems to be some sort of world graphics that actually look pretty sharp too

And the PGA Championship looks like it's pretty much CBS on ESPN like the Masters, but this time it's straight-up CBS graphics (unlike the Masters having gotten its own dedicated, network-agnostic look)

But then they did one of the weird Monday Night Football CGI interludes.

I wonder if such a thing like the scoreboard layout is mandated, so to speak, by the leagues, so all camera angles can be consistent when certain broadcasts appear across different networks. Words are failing me, but moral of the story, the new graphics are being used for high school football tonight on the mothership.

Funny, the first game they had last night used the old graphics.

IMHO, the new ESPN graphics are too big and clunky.  especially the scorebox.  They should have kept it in the corner like they've been doing the last several years.

Even FOX with their football graphics has made theirs simpler by centering it in the lower third of the screen, but not taking up the entire width.

Former Cincinnati Red + Color Analyst for ESPN Sunday night Baseball for 22 years, Joe Morgan passed away Sunday at 77. Baseball has been hit hard recently with Hall of Fame losses such as Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock + Whitey Ford.🙏
