Hearst buys WPXT

As many expected, the longtime roommates are finally getting married. WPXT has the CW, MyNet and MeTV affiliations in the Portland-Auburn, Maine market. Seller Ironwood unloaded WPME to Ion last year for $900K. WPXT crams five signals (one 1080i, one 720p, and three 480i) onto one carrier, and it looks predictably awful OTA. Look for Hearst to migrate the MeTV affiliation to WMTW once the deal closes, and you can pretty much count on WMTW launching a 10PM newscast on WPXT. This acquisition is being discussed in the Hearst corporate thread. The sale price was $3,350,000.
