In memory of David Horowitz, who died earlier this week at age 81: Here’s a full episode of his show “Fight Back!” from 1992 (near the end of its run); it started as a local show called “California Buyline” on KNBC in 1976 and then “Consumer Buyline” before going national in 1980.

Why didn’t anyone tell me that David Horowitz died?!!??

An "emotional" promo of Grupo Clarín to promote the launch of its new logo in May 2000. Clarín is the largest media conglomerate in Argentina: it owns several TV stations, a cable company, newspapers, magazines and radio stations. This commercial aired on Canal 13, owned by Clarín itself!

An old ID from WNDS in Derry, NH in the late 1990s, when the station's slogan was "The Winds of New England". Includes the intros of TV classics Ironside and The Bold Ones.

An old intro of an Argentine variety show called Estudio Philips, that aired on ATC in 1984, presented by Uruguayan broadcaster Juan Carlos Mareco. The studio orchestra was conducted by Raúl Parentella, who also composed a couple of news themes. Ironically, the program's intro was voiced by Daniel Ruiz, Canal 13's main announcer since 1974.

CFCF in Montreal signing off in 1985.

Hearing Ernie Anderson talk about the WWF back in the late 80s early 90s. This was the bid video for the LA Coliseum to get Wrestlemania. Of course due to lagging ticket sales, they moved it to the LA Memorial Sports Arena

Here's a block of commercials and promos from KUTP (IND) 45 in Phoenix from 1986. The promo design and TOH ID are the original from their 1985 sign-on. They would become a #3 (yet respectable after picking up the "red hot"--at the time--Phoenix Suns in 1988) indie (I'm counting KNXV during their first few years with FOX as still independent).

From 7/3/78: premiere of The New Tic Tac Dough on CBS Daytime w/Wink Martindale (this CBS show only lasted 7/3/78 to 9/1/78, and was a precursor to the more famous syndie that ran from 1978-86 [1978-85 w/Wink, and 1985-86 w/Jim Caldwell]; IIRC, this broadcast was from KNXT Channel 2 in L.A. [CBS O&O of the City of Angels, before that station became KCBS in 1984])

How about this for some nostalgia in Houston. KTXH (UPN 20) broadcasting a Houston Aeros (then an IHL team) in their second season.

from when they were Paramount 20

Or about how when ESPN2 during the NHL lockout was carrying the IHL

Walker Brown, whose video collection focuses on Oklahoma City content, has made a great find. This is a 35-minute-long commercial block from KAUT, during its first tenure as a commercial station, roughly a year-and-a-half after it became the market's original Fox affiliate. Featured are some promos and station IDs using a graphics package by John Christopher Burns and a movie wraparound segment featuring OKC horror legend Count Gregore (played by John Ferguson).

This game telecast from 1986 is notable for two reasons:

-it is the final game Wichita State played in football (the program was disbanded within a month)

-it was also the final regular season game in ASU's Rose Bowl season

Wichita State football at the time was telecast by KBS (KWCH).

As a bonus...

-There's a promo at 1:37:00...

-and at 2:55:35 is a promo leading into the KWCH sign-off. This must have been a repeat.

I'm sure then-KWCH GM Ron Bergamo, a University of Arizona graduate, wasn't happy with the result of this game. Ironically, he would end up in Phoenix two years later running KTSP.

Here's a couple 1992 promos from then-newsless Fox affiliate KNXV-15 (whose call letter-based image campaign that season was produced by TVbD, IIRC):

And some rare pre-Scripps KNXV (I've started at a promo for "The Greatest American Hero," which ended with graphics featuring their slogan at the time "Where The Stars Shine"). Then co-owned WCGV-24 in Milwaukee used the same slogan and similar graphics.

A small post with some sign-offs from around the world. Let's start with LWT, ITV's old weekend London franchise in the 1980s. I love the remainder from the announcers to turn off the TV sets. Was it that because some people left them on during the night?

Television Nacional de Chile (TVN) closes down for the day in August 1993, right after an episode of Tales from the Darkside, with pictures of Chile's most beautiful landscapes. The sign-off message is voiced by its legendary announcer Fernando Solís.

ABN2 in Sydney signs off in 1987 with footage of Australia's largest city and a brief check of the next day's evening lineup!

ZDF closing down in 1993, with an energic announcer repeating several times that the station is off the air.

And finally, a modern sign-off message from Canal 13 in 2004, where the station's personalities were in charge of saying goodnight to the viewers.

Two idents of Scottish Television from the early 2000s (in high quality!), showing the beauty of Scotland's landscapes. The music was composed by Savalas Studio.

A Tuesday night lineup promo and station ID from the Nine Network in 1994.

Don't think this was posted here: the premiere opening of Sunday on the Nine Network from Down Under, 11/5/81 (anchorman Jim Waley expresses similar goals to what the late, great Charles Kuralt expressed on Sunday Morning on CBS in 1979 here in America)...

This was the bid for WM VI in 1990. LA wouldn’t get this one, Skydome (now Rogers Center) in Toronto would get it. LA would host WM VII the next year. Vince McMahon used security concerns from Operation Desert Storm as his excuse for why the event was moved to the LA Sports Arena from the Coliseum to cover up the low ticket sales.

Intro and promo of Platea Vip, a weekly movie series that aired on Canal 9 in the late 1990s. The intro was recorded in November 1998, while the promo presents the lineup of the movies shown a couple of months earlier, between May 26 and June 30, 1998.

Here is a special that aired on CBS in either 1976 or 1977 titled "The Best of All in the Family." The special includes original commercials and features a CBS ID at 31:51. The video comes from Marion Stokes' Archive page where she has posted a number of rare videos that contain news and other shows with commercials.
