Compared to Canadians when you look at this, we Americans stunk at television.

YES to all this. The REAL CityTV station, NOT the vapid run of the mill standardized TV 'network'. Every city affiliate should have its own Breakfast TV, CityLine, Speakers Corner, hell this show (updated of course) along with their own CityNews. Make it Local. That's future NOW.

Also, rock on technotronic! I remember that joint.

Btw, this was 1989. Here's 2018 showing you what Monika Deol has been up to since leaving television at the top of her game...

Intro and excerpt of WCVB's locally-produced show Night Shift in 1988, hosted by Yakov Caplan. The program showcased animation and short films created by filmmakers from around the region. It's sad to know that programs like this one aren't produced anymore.

In memory of David Horowitz, who died earlier this week at age 81: Here’s a full episode of his show “Fight Back!” from 1992 (near the end of its run); it started as a local show called “California Buyline” on KNBC in 1976 and then “Consumer Buyline” before going national in 1980.

Time for a bit of music! Some of BBC's main personalities singing three of the Bee Gees' most memorable songs in a 1999 Comic Relief special:

In September 2001, Argentine station Azul Televisión revamped its identity, so it hired three Blue Man Group impersonators to perform on its IDs. The IDs were removed in April 2002, when the identity became more calm and peaceful, switching the background color from blue to white.

When soccer came alive to our TV screens: an old intro from the show "Futbol de Primera" in 1988. The program aired on Sunday nights between 1985 and 2009, carrying highlights of the soccer matches played during the weekend. The theme from the movie Blade Runner (used by the program) became an institution and has been associated with sports broadcasting in the country ever since.

Plus, the intro of the legendary British show Trans World Sport from the late 1990s:

More sports now! Here's the intro of CBS Sports Spectacular in 1973, sponsored by Ford.
WARNING: it's a catchy tune and maybe you'll end up humming it or even singing it!

A small update on Fútbol de Primera: the complete intro of the show from 1999, when it celebrated its 15th season on air.

Not a news station, just a very-low-budget intro to Fresno independent KAIL-53's movies. Notice the mailbox number stickers used for "53." The former owner of this station was notoriously cheap at his two radio stations and one TV station.

For much of the 70's, KAIL only broadcast about 4-5 hours a day, it was mostly public affairs and religious shows. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a brief period after that where the station went dark and then came back under new owners and with a stronger signal and schedule.

They were under the same ownership from the late '60s until 2015. Possibly the owner (A.J. Williams) took if off the air in the mid-'70s to build  radio station KDWN 720 in Las Vegas, and I'm guessing the profits from that station were used to put KAIL back on the air. When they signed off their analog signal ten years ago, they were running a '60s-era GE transmitter.

KAIL was under management turmoil throughout the '80s too (according the Broadcasting Magazine archives at americanradiohistory.com).

A promo of Travel Travel, a travel show produced out of CFCF in Montreal, hosted by Don McGowan. In the US, the program aired on the Travel Channel. WHDH-TV in Boston was one of the handful of OTA stations that carried the show.

Some local and national promos from STW-9 Perth in September 2003.

Seven Network's intro of its coverage of summer tennis in 2002:

Epic intro of Futbol de Primera in 2005, the year of its 20th anniversary. Part 2 of the intro is at 4:31.

KSTP Severe Weather Crawl circa 2001.

Despite switching to Overture by this time, KSTP still used the beeps from its News Image/Leading Edge days to open its news and, in this instance, the severe weather crawl. I still get goosebumps when I hear this teletype effect.
