Didn't Tegna disband some of the hubbing that existed inside the group? This came up during Hurricane Harvey. KHOU's master control used to be at WFAA (with the other Texas Belo stations), moved back locally to KHOU (and they were apparently in the process of updating it when Harvey hit) sometime after the Belo sale, and has now temporarily moved back to WFAA in the wake of Harvey.

It's more like they're "clustered" and not "hubbed." There are a few pockets here and there that do it, some of the stations are still solo, and there's no central facility controlling them all.

Regional hubs are what Tegna calls them, but that is a perfect description as well. I remember reading on here about the ongoing "un-hubbing" of the former Belo properties.

FWIW, KBMT still serves as the hub for the former London stations whose hub was set up before the sale to Gannett.

Remember, Tegna wants everyone to forget what they learned in journalism school. They're in the entertainment business now.

Amen. They'll run WTOL and KWES to the ground and yet, they'll still be second because WNWO and KMID have no shot of catching up.

A Minor problem at KFMB....

2 days ago they (KFMB-8) posted a throwback piece on the website and the YT throwback site. It was a 1978 package about tourism at Lake Tahoe.

Just one minor problem...

The story was fronted by reporter Mac Heald.

Do an internet search of "Mac Heald KFMB reporter" and see what sprouts up....

All puns intended.

The package was yanked from both sites shortly after the "comments" from youtube started rolling in.

Whoops.

  • 3 weeks later...
They've been doing the newscasts all morning without their monitor wall. I wonder if it broke, or if they're updating it with new graphics software?

Oops_Wall3.gif

You would think they would go to their basketball court secondary set

Before the set refresh, they had issues with the old monitor wall twice.

When they had the 3 monitor wall set up where the weather monitor is currently located, they literally just put it behind the anchors while it was getting fixed.

WTOL is one of those "if it ain't broke" stations; they'll impose the TEGNA style at 11/36... but to a much lesser extent, a la WKYC (another station they haven't and aren't going to run to the ground).

Toledo is basically a two-station market. Excluding a brief period in the late 90s, TV24 has never been competitive.

Primarily because Tegna/Gannett rebuilt 'KYC from the years of malignant neglect by NBC....

soon. Heard they're undergoing training now.

The current graphics have been having issues, look at that informative ticker.

Also the new look has been used on all recently created promos, so I agree it'll be soon. Just not sure exactly when.

Should be a matter of days. Ticker issue may not be related. Most templates don't say test, but a description of the graphic. If it said "ticker" then it's more likely.

Has the KFMB website switched to TEGNA design yet?

Not yet.. But that brings up some good points:

• Will they combine CBS8.com and TheCWSanDiego.com like KING/KONG, KUSA/KTVD, KBNT/KJAC, KREM/KSKN or WWL/WUPL? My guess is yes, as I could not find any Tegna duopolies that had separate websites.

• If so, will they use CBS8.com, KFMB.com, or News8SD.com? Heck, news8.com is for sale if they want to shell out the cash.
