The is a really good version of the CBS O&O sets. But its really badly lit. And is 'burned" out in certainly places. And there is blue bleed in certain blue backlit elements on the set. Which was very noticeable when Ryan Baker was doing sports. Not sure what is causing that but its a problem that needs to be address. I cant understand why that hasnt been addressed. I used to notice that on desk in the newsroom that had those backlit blue sections, it would bleed thru. Camera issue? Overall as far the set design goes. Its quite nice and joins WFLD at the top IMO of the Chicago. With NBC 5 WMAQ and WGN's new set bring up the rear.

One major issue I noticed on the wide shots used for weather and sports is that the glare from the lights in the foreground obfuscates the view of the studio.

Even when Steve was doing the Weather Watchers from the TV screen in the weather center, there was an obvious glare on the TV from the lights above

Yeah, I think the set could be a little dimmer. Way too bright.

I don't know about dimming the studio as much as just shielding the light from glaring on the camera lenses.

Also, why's The Late Show in reruns the week after the new season started just last week? Seems like a really odd time to do reruns. Usually you start a season with MANY live weeks in a row, but hey, that's just me.

Colbert's hosting the Emmys this weekend.

Five points for getting a new set, minus 5 for blinding viewers. Hopefully they work on that.

Side note...This is the first time I have watched an entire newscast on WBBM in years. I feel like I missed something newsworthy however.

Last time I watched a full WBBM newscast was probably when Kate Sullivan was hired, and before that, probably when the 2008 set debuted.

I seriously think I've only watched 3 complete WBBM newscasts in the past 10 years.

I think the only way to fix this problem is to reposition some lights around the set and/or totally remove some. The set/space is small and they shouldn't need that much light.

Part 1:

Overall, it is a vast improvement, but it feels so cold. Of course, it's brand new, but it just feels like it could be anybody's set, while the other 4 sets in town mostly fit the character of the talent and product (yes, an argument could be made about WGN). Anyway, in all its glory...

Part 3:

Finally, they got a new copyright tag. I like it. Also, that studio seems a lot bigger than I imagined. There isn't really wasted space, but the area towards the weather center is rather deep.

Also, here's that night and day backdrop flub mentioned before. (Actually, I think it's literally a brighter, less muddy version of the first. See the part one 2-shot and 4-shot for comparison.)

I'm going to sleep on it, before I give my full opinion. I know what I want to say, but I just want to flesh it out.

That's a flub? The night and day backdrops look damn near identical to me.

Eh. It does feel cold (and their logo bugs the hell out of me - the yellow 2 and the box clash. Either drop the box or give it a fill).

New set or not I stopped watching after they fired Kate Sullivan, Sergeant is unwatchable. WGN with seven as a backup

Yeah, when Kate Sullivan (who I liked, for the record) is a warmer presence, you know you match the tone of the new set.
