I can see why WPIX was dumped to a shell company.

It's a VHF which would have cost them dearly in cap space (6 percent)

WGN is only worth about 1 percent after their UHF discount...probably enough to put them over the scales post-merger.

Note that WJW is also a VHF signal (RF 8). Same with KCPQ (RF 13).

Is the FOX deal still even in play? It must be hell for the Tribune employees, but REALLY bad for those who used to work for FOX, and for the on again off again hope of them re-acquiring some of their stations...

I think Fox and Sinclair is still negotiating to acquire a few more stations (including stations such as KSWB) that's why the Fox deal with Sinclair hasn't been made official yet

By all accounts, it’s a handshake deal wholly contingent on the merger being approved.

In Sinclair's defense, there are, in fact, cases where the news is fake. The whole thing on Roy Moore being a pedophile turned out to be bull for example.

I honestly can't tell if you are seriously saying that Roy Moore is innocent.

Are you a Trumpie?
No, but what's wrong with Trumpies?

WTAF? LMAO!
I know it sounds ridiculous, but come on, how is it that we criticize Sinclair for their SSAs with Cunningham and Deerfield (which, yes such uses of SSAs have gotten ridiculous) even in smaller markets, yet Raycom can have SSAs with American Spirit Media free from scrutiny?

My point is that we pile on Sinclair (and to a lesser extent, Nexstar, though at least there it's more justified), yet don't seem to care that David Hogg is hogging (pun intended) all the media attention (on CNN, MSNBC, and the Today show for example) for some reason.

That...thought...though....

Live look with Marcia Brady on her response.....

Simple answer: Raycom doesn't abuse the laws in the same way a Sinclair or a Nexstar does.

Turning this away from a Trump hate-fest, the promo is really more tone deaf on the part of Sinclair. They've had relentless criticism of their must-runs and Boris' pro-Trump messaging, which (obviously) gives off a conservative bias. They don't air anything that runs a counter, liberal perspective. Issues 1, 2, and 3.

Then they come out with a promo decrying basically anything from national media outlets as (and God do I hate this term now) fake news. However, they claim news coming from any of their stations, the stations that are required to air clearly Conservative commentary, is "real" news.

That's why it's tone deaf. Despite having a clear bias, they insist there's no bias, then say that all news/commentary coming from their stations is 100% true, implying the Conservative way is the right way and anything else is wrong.

You don't see Cox, Graham, Hearst, Raycom, Meredith or any other TV station group (including the others that have been gobbled up (or soon-to-be gobbled up) by either Nexstar or Sinclair) doing that kind of "extremely biased journalism" by having must-runs on any of their stations, so what makes Sinclair so special that it doesn't play by the rules?

Sometimes there is value in rulebreaking. In some cases, it's not only encouraged to break the rules, but necessary, like escaping from the totalitarian hellhole that is North Korea. That said, why didn't you tell Tom Wheeler about the whole thing about SSAs 5 years ago? What next, is Nexstar conservative too?

And even now Sinclair thought they could get away with owning 2 top four stations in Harrisburg (WPMT-WHP) turns out it took the DOJ ordering that market to be divested before Sinclair realized that they couldn't do that in Harrisburg.

For almost 30 years (since the creation of the sharing agreements) Sinclair has shown time and time again they don't want to play by the rules and regulations as set forth by the FCC and the reason that Sinclair is able to not play by the rules and get away with it is because none of the FCC Commissioners from the time Sharing Agreements was created to today have put a stop to Sinclair's efforts to evade FCC rules.

You might say that this merger should not be approved but it will be approved anyway, why? Because Sinclair thinks they can get away with every rule and regulation in the FCC handbook, that's why.

I'd expect Nexstar to soon take Sinclairs lead, but from a progressive view, maybe hire some people from The Young Turks or Ring of Fire to do their own must runs for the Democrat side. Imagine, instead of Keeping it Local, Nexstar's new slogan would be Keeping it Liberal!

"The sharing of biased and false news has become all too common on social media," the script says. "More alarming, national media outlets are publishing these same fake stories without checking facts first. Unfortunately, some members of the national media are using their platforms to push their own personal bias and agenda to control 'exactly what people think' ... This is extremely dangerous to our democracy."

But not you Sinclair. You're reporting is so honest and objective about how Trump is the greatest President in the history of the world and that anyone who says otherwise is an enemy who hates American...give me a break.

It takes a lot of guts to be THAT hypocritical like they were in that statement above. You guys are part of the problem and eventually local TV's credibility is going to be shot because of people like you. I believe that Sinclair will be the iheartMedia/Clear Channel of local TV in more ways than one.

See, and this is the point. This is so stupid on multiple levels, especially with the risk of chasing away a wide swath of viewers based solely on a pro-GOP agenda.

But this has the same potential to drive away advertisers, either through their own objections or through social media-driven pressure. This is not a recipe for success by any means.

If they want to be like conservative talk radio, then be like conservative talk radio. Nothing but opinion pieces read by old white males with nothing but direct-service ads for colon cleansing and male hormone supplements. Ya know, stuff that no one but people over the age of 55 listen to.
