New Fox Sports graphics (2017 Edition?)

This feels like a last-minute decision to make some new graphics for the Super Bowl because of NBC and CBS's trend of always debuting a new package for the Super Bowl. Fox wanted to join this trend, and IMO, they didn't give it the proper time to complete a full new package, instead opting to rush out some new graphics, but not a complete package. So they're having to use old graphics for the types of graphics that they didn't have time to make in the new set.

Some graphics are from the current pack. So this is a half-assed refresh.

This is probably as half-assed as TSN when they kept on mix-and-matching the L3s from this

With the (now previous) red/white glossy scoreboard (took a while to phase in. First they replaced the scoreboard, then upgraded the SportsCentre super-ticker to a red/white metallic version before just going to the garden variety glossy BottomLine, and then starting to use the L3s during a Grey Cup game)

Or nearly any San Diego Los Angeles Chargers pre-season game

What's worse is that certain graphics have had portions flattened out, while still retaining gradient elements from the 2014 look. For example, with the FoxBox, they left the Quarter and Time section with a gradient, but they flattened out everything above and below that.

With the larger score graphic they use going to break, they again kept a gradient on the Quarter and Time section while flattening out everything to the left and right of that section. It's so bizarre and sloppy.

This. What's worse is that they tried to cover up the fact that this package isn't finished by taking elements of the old look and flattened it. What a joke

Isn't that what they did last time they aired the Super Bowl, when they mixed and matched graphics? Granted, it wasn't to this extent, but IIRC, they have done it before. Then they rolled out the new package for baseball season. Either way, there's no excuse for this shit to have made it on air. FOX really dropped the ball. Let's see what they do in a few weeks when Spring Training games begin.

There were no new graphics last time. There were some things we felt were an incoming refresh of the original 2010 package, but it ended up being more like the new FS1 studio graphics they did use that week

But about 2-3 weeks later, when NASCAR season started, Fox debuted their new graphics... which is Fox's typical timeline.

Based on the hodgepoge of graphics, it appears that may have been the plan for this package, but changed somewhere along the way, and the only thing they were able to get done is to take the Grey border off the Fox Box, and design all new lower 3rds' for their Pre-Game show.

I wonder what really happened behind the scenes. Was the graphics team not done with the new package and decided to use what they had, or did someone higher up end up not liking the FOX BOX and additional graphics thus forcing them to tweak the current one?

Also, prior to the last few packages/refreshes, IIRC, everything was done before the start of the NFL season. Then these last few years, any new/updated graphics debuted in time for Nascar season and carried over into baseball.

They had 3 years to get their shit together. No excuse to do a rush job on the graphics package when they had plenty of time to create them.

They can't make up their mind and decide if they want glossy or flat graphics. They're indecisive just like ESPN where they have the flat look, and the MNF/NBA/College Football Playoff graphics.

I'd say this is another speciman of a potential redesign, but this is just from the NASCAR Race Hub package (which itself was still in use last season, and has L3s based on the current studio look.

Also, I'd keep an eye out tomorrow, because of practice for the Formerly Known As The Budweiser Shootout.

No new gfx on the FSN side for baseball (at least on FS Midwest). The FOX box has moved back to the left side. FSN doesn't usually roll out anything new/updated until the last game(s) of Spring Training or for Opening Day. I'll have some screen grabs in a bit.

Daytona 500 is the nail in the head. Nothing new (except for last year's new inserts being updated with the new NASCAR logo, and anything new related to that silly new stage system). If Fox had anything new, it would've debuted during the prelude to Daytona.

I don't know. Something seems off. If it was just temporary, then they wouldn't have tweaked the FOXBOX for the Super Bowl. And the fact that they had a mix of old and new stuff leads me to believe that they weren't done with them, and rushed them out. That being said, the turn around from the SB to Daytona is a few weeks, so if they didn't have the updates ready for the Super Bowl, they sure as hell weren't going to be ready for Daytona.

Opening Day for baseball is still about a month away. They have plenty of time to tweak what they need to for the FSN's to use--and as i've mentioned before, any new/updated gfx usually debut during the last few spring training games.

Anyways, Here are a few screen grabs from FSN Midwest (which had a lot of trouble with the FOX Box placement throughout Saturday's game):

And this graphic seems new:

So there's confirmation that there will indeed be a new graphics package coming this fall. Watch the video below (around the 1 minute mark):

Wonder if these are the new graphics?
