NBC launching new Telemundo San Diego O&O

Smart money would say go back to NewsChannel 15. But we all know that they're run by a bunch of morons now so watch them screw this up. In regards to Telemundo SD placement, they really need that channel position advantage...so they need to go for channel 14. That will put them before Univision on 17, Scripps 15, and XHAS on 20. Putting them on the same channel as the other Spanish language stations will only confuse the viewer.

And as far as marketing the new Telemundo, they should really get a chopper that way the can promote the hell out of it and use this in a promo:

"La nueva Telemundo San Diego, nosotros tenemos un helicóptero, y esos cabrones, no!"... powered by NBC 7.

Might as well just make a play for 15....and screw Scripps. Making 15 Telemundo is an equipment rack adjustment at the head end at the most....

Giving up 14 may take a bit more effort/money from NBC.

But ya never know.........

14 has been sitting vacant for the last 5+ years or so... I can't remember when they took KTLA off the channel, but I want to say that it was around the time that KSWB started up with FOX. And MyTV13 is dying on the vine, one channel down. We'll see what happens.

The 15 slot would be open also seeing that channel slot was negotiated by MGH and NOT Scripps. I would deport Azteca up to the 400's and let NBC fight it out with Scripps. You could always move the 10news repeats / loops back to 15 (cur 810 in N.C.) where they used to be.

And don't forget when they used to have 10 NEWS LIVE at 9 on NewsChannel 15. "San Diego's only Primetime News at 9."

You will never just how much the anchors hated that 9pm show...

It totally messed up the 2 1/2 hour "dinners".

Remember you still have to deal with TWC. I'm not sure what they have open...or what they will want.

Spectrum has 12 and 19 open. Channel 14 is HSN.

Lol. Shoot KGTV was only 30 minutes. I think KGO is the only ABC affiliate that does a 9pm full hour show on KOFY. It's actually not a bad newscast.

Here's something from the B&C this morning regarding Azteca in SD.

  • Azteca will be aired on a subchannel of MyNet station XHDTV, beginning March 15. It will then move to XHAS on July 1st.
  • Azteca SD will produce 90 minutes of local news (5-6pm & 11-11:30pm). They didn't say if its just weeknights or 7 nights a week.

And as of last month, Entravision has also added Azteca in Yuma-El Centro (KYVE) & Laredo (KXOF).

There are a whole lot of moving parts i9n all this.

Is Azteca and Azteca SD the same? Or are you just referring to the same entity?

Remembering that sharks have brains the size of walnuts...can u help me?

CircleSeven is referring to Azteca San Diego, which will start out on XHDTV then move to XHAS.

Azteca America, the network moves to a subchannel of MyTV until July, then XHAS takes it over, so it becomes Azteca America San Diego. Essentially the current Telemundo 33 and the news operation will convert to Azteca America San Diego news.

Both 12 and 19 are taken by XEWT and KOCT in North County, so I think there is gonna be some horn-swaggeling going on.

I was under the impression that Spectrum did not carry XEWT.

Thanks guys...I fixed it.

So I'm gonna double down on the "Ch-15 will be in play" theory.

I think it's too valuable for Scripps to be able to afford to keep.

Well, Entravision is going to have their hands full. It'd be interesting to see if they also make a play for Ch15, so that it's closer to KBNT and XHDTV (That could mean Entravision controlling Channels 13/15/17). I know it may not mean much to some, but considering the competition that they will face, they're going to need all the advantages they can get. And this isn't taking into consideration on what could happen to Univision/KBNT.

Well, looks like Entravision and Azteca are in cahoots beyond San Diego. KVYE Yuma and KXOF Laredo will take on Azteca América on subchannels. Additionally, XHDTV takes on Azteca América beginning March 15 (next Wednesday!) until July 1.

Azteca América in San Diego will have a 5pm news hour and an 11:00 show.

AA had no affiliates in the Yuma or Laredo markets, which similarly to San Diego are border markets where the Mexican networks are viewable over the air.

Maybe Telemundo on ch. 4. That would really make a big impression!

Not going to happen. Cox will not give up channel 4, unless NBC ponies up a good chunk of change-- and they won't.

Hold on my friend...

COX has been debranding(now YVCA) 4SD over the past few months. Channel ID has changed(COX N.County)...and there is NO money left at COX4 after the Padres went to FOX Sports. Dennis Morgino and crew (what's left) are not producing anything but a few education sleepers now.

My guess is 4 is in play right now....big time in play.

They're bringing the really stupid-sounding "YurView" name here. Couldn't they spell it how it was intended...or better yet, just kept the "Cox 7" name?

Well, they're plugging informercials on the channel as well. Is someone willing to offer them good money for that premium position? And what about Spectrum? Do they have 4 available as well? If they didn't give up the channel position when they lost the Padres tv rights, then they must have a need/plan for that channel, and it may be out of COX's local control.

No sane person in SD is on Scrotum cable. Remember when Southwestern cable was actually cool? back then COX had those shitty rotary 32ch boxes. SWC had the super bad ass Jerrold 37 channel wired remote.

I'm too lazy to lookup the Spewtum cable guide...but I bet 4 is available if someone really wants it.

I'm liking that Telemundo / 4 idea that RV65 tossed out there.

That is one of the coolest gizmos I've seen in a long time. And they called it a remote?

You could totally blast thru channels. It was instant chango presto. The little wheel on the side was a fine tuner where you could get the audio of HBO or pay porn audio.

They also used those for the in-house viewers at KNBC/NBC News in Burbank.
