NWCN shuts down

Here's an article from The Seattle Times that goes into more detail about the move and also interviewed the GM for KING to explain why the move was made (basically cable news channels like NWCN are irrelevant in a digital world).

I have a feeling that NECN won't survive long after NBC Boston's launch for largely the same reason. There was a big brouhaha about Time Warner dropping them a couple of years ago as very few people actually watched the station in the hinterlands of New England. After some political pressure and assurances from NECN that they would beef up their regional coverage the threat of dropping the channel went away. But I think that will prove to only be a temporary reprieve. Notwithstanding the management focus on getting NBC Boston up and running and competing effectively with the existing players, the economics of regional cable news channels seems to disfavor NECN in the long run.
