WBTS - Home of NBC Boston?

Rabbit ears dot info shows a repack listing for WBTS changing from channel 46 to 36, with Providence as it's city.

They still have WYCN-CD, piggybacked onto WGBX. That should be the main station.

Unless WNEU is still planning to move to Boston.

They are and the FCC approved the application. Guessing what they will do is risky, but they won't need the WGBX sharing once WNEU moves to Needham - and probably will move the 15-1 and 15-2 numbering from WGBX to WNEU.

NBC needs to give up on Boston, WBTS-LD/WNEU-DT2/WYCN-CD NBC Boston Cable Channel 10 Virtual Channel 8 is a colossal failure. It's pretty sad and telling that the NBC affiliate it replaced is doing better as an news-intensive independent than as a network affiliate.

They can't use WBTS 8-1 for NBC Boston once moved to RI, unless WJAR is about to get a very big surprise... However it would keep a full HD Telemundo signal in the market, plus add CoziTV and TeleXitos. NBCU already owns WRIW-CD in Providence, which runs Telemundo now, but that will soon be shared on WPXQ with limited bandwidth.

WCEA-LD Boston and WBTS-LD Providence will both be moving to channel 36 after the repack; how close is too close for LD's on the same frequency?

The signals, if approved, actually overlap each other in the Brockton area. WCEA-LD has another problem, too. Their virtual channel 58 is now owned in the market by full power licensed WDPX 58-1, which since it began sharing on WBPX, after moving from Cape Cod, resulting in there being two 58-1's. Many TV's handle that badly.

Low power stations in many areas are going to have problems finding a usable channel after the repack, maybe some of them should consider their own sharing.
"NBC Universal Media Economic Opportunity Area" aka NBC Boston studios: https://patch.com/massachusetts/needham/nbcuniversal-breaks-ground-needham-hq-next-week
I realize all big businesses will try to do all they can to get cities to give them incentives to move there (Amazon HQ) but this line is an outright lie and sounds like the city bought it:
During a then-named selectmen meeting last year, representatives from the media company told the board that the move could lead to the creation of a media cluster which could be similar to the media center in Stamford, Connecticut.
I’m interpretating the phrase “creation of a media cluster” refers to media businesses that will pop up or move nearby. I know that Boston is a large market but I don’t see other stations move there or large business to do the same. The biggest difference is that the Stamford site is network level with 775 employees on a full time basis while the four stations has what 300 max? As for providing resources the station could have maybe different departments give presentations and suggestions twice a month. Channeling my @Eat News they could do what all the hippy socialists are doing and open up a incubator to provide office space on a fraction of a floor. The eight internships for the city were already going to be there. Incorporating the Needham Crossing Logo will be easy and go at the end of newscasts for nothing (and won’t eat up the inventory).
I gagged when I saw the term "Media Economic Opportunity Area" which is code for "We want to extort all the P.C. taxes we can get from you"...AND you have to give up some stupid "feel good" crap also.

It's looks like some nutcase from California put the "deal "together.

The announcement was made after all the negotiations were done, and all the permits were issued.

The construction of TV stations is a pretty fast thing, once all the design and permits are in order.

Congrats to those 8 special interns!

Based on this video it looks like they’re renovating the building.

Needham is a very high end mostly residential town. Average home price is around $1 million. However this end of Needham, near the Newton line, and separated by the highway from the rest of the town since the 40's, mainly consisted of the Needham Industrial Park, with many buildings accessible by railroad track. It's changed into a high end office and condo area, with the smaller buildings replaced, and some of the largest like the NBCU building completely gutted and rebuilt.

NBC doesn't need a new TV station in Boston. WNEU is moving its stick to the Needham farm post-repack. They could then go to the FCC and try to change the WYCN-CD channel-sharing agreement from being a sharee of WGBX to being a sharee of WNEU. That way WYCN can keep their virtual channel 15 (15 is better than 25), while WGBX can use their whole spectrum by themselves. And then switch the callsign too. Let WYCN-CD become WBTS-CD. And let WBTS-LD become WYCN-LD, since that LP is moving south to Providence.

A small little bump.

Back in August, after the Phase 4 repack concluded, and WNEU sucessfully moved to Needham, There appears to be a callsign switch.

WBTS-LD is now WYCN-LD. And WYCN-CD is now WBTS-CD. But WBTS-CD (formerly WYCN-CD) is still channel-sharing with WGBX or RF 32. That hasn't changed.

I also want to show y'all this.

Upon review at RabbitEars.info,

With the move to Needham, WNEU RF 29 now lists the following:

15.3 NBC

15.4 Cozi

60.1 Telemundo

60.2 Telexitos

60.3 LX (Soon)

WGBX, RF 32 lists:

2.2 World

2.3 WGBH SD

15.1 NBC

15.2 Cozi

44.2 WGBX SD

44.3 Create

44.4 PBS Kids

They also show WYCN-LD, RF 46 off the air with a pending move to Providence, RI and to RF 36, which would possibly allow full bandwidth Telemundo service by taking WRIW off the WPXQ stick.

Moreover,  It also appears that WNEU is operating at reduced power from Needham as I suspect that NBC will leave WGBX on RF 29 is ready to operate at full power.

Nope. WBTS-CD will continue to channel share with WGBX on RF 32 (not 29, don't know where you got 29 from?). And WNEU is at reduced power because of tower work. WNEU also added 15.3/4 because of signal issues with WBTS (probably related to the tower work).

Some stations that repack to their new RF channels are operating on their temporary facilities, while the crews installi new maximized facilities. Once the tower/repack work is completed, both WNEU & WBTS will be at full power.

And WRIW will continue to channel share with WPXQ, even after WYCN completes its move to Providence (whenever that happens).

480p can look pretty amazing depending on how much bandwidth is allocated to it and how well the source video was processed. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between 480p and high definition. Some of the shows on Cozi look simply amazing even on a large screen TV.

Has WBTS 15.1 actually replaced WYCN 8.1 as the primary NBC affiliate? For all intents and purposes, it has.
