Rupert Murdoch gives ultimatum to Ailes: resign or be fired

Text of article from Fortune:

"On Monday, New York magazine’s Gabriel Sherman cited two anonymous sources in reporting that the Murdoch family leadership at parent company 21st Century Fox has settled on ousting Ailes as CEO and chairman of the cable news network. That comes amid the company’s ongoing investigation into Gretchen Carlson’s sexual harassment allegations against Ailes.

Sherman reports that Fox CEO James Murdoch is leaning toward offering Ailes the option of either resigning or facing the possibility of being fired sometime this week. Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch—James’ father and brother, respectively, and the executive co-chairmen of 21st Century Fox—are reportedly in favor of waiting to make a move until after this week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland, a major news event, particularly for the conservative-leaning Fox News network.

Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment suit against Ailes earlier this month, and soon after, New York’s Sherman reported that six women came forward, two using their full names, claiming that Ailes had sexually harassed them too. Ailes denied all allegations.

Fox hired prominent corporate law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison to conduct an investigation, and the Monday report from Sherman cites anonymous sources who have been briefed on the law firm’s inquiry. In recent days, several top Fox News employees have come forward to defend their boss, and Sherman notes that the law firm is delving into the question of whether Ailes or other high-level managers applied inappropriate pressure. The firm is looking at an op-ed by Fox Business anchor Neil Cavuto. (Last week, The Washington Post published a critical article after Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly publicly supported Ailes, noting O’Reilly had himself once been accused of sexual harassment.)

21st Century Fox issued a statement saying, “This matter is not yet resolved and the review is not concluded.” Fortunereached out to Fox News for comment and will update this article with any response.

After Carlson filed her lawsuit against Ailes—a suit that, notably, does not name Fox News itself as a defendant—Fortune‘s Roger Parloff wrote about Carlson’s possible motivations in not naming the company in the suit, including the possibility that the former anchor hoped to drive a wedge between Ailes and the younger Murdoch executives at parent company 21st Century Fox. If that was, indeed, the motivation, then Monday’s report would seem to justify the decision.

Carlson’s lawsuit does not represent the first instance of sexual harassment allegations against Ailes. Sherman wrote an unauthorized biography of Ailes in 2014 that included some sexual harassment claims. On Monday, the women’s advocacy organization UltraViolet also announced the nearly 50,000 people have signed the group’s petitioncalling for Ailes’ removal as head of Fox News."

Ailes is also the head of FBN and Fox Television Stations, Inc. (the Fox O&O stations group)

I would harass Megan Kelly for 40 million dollars.

Nice payday Rodger.

Now we will NEVER find out if Rodger really has "game"...or is just a dirty old man.

I see in the future....

Rodger and Rachal Maddow in an intimate chance meeting.....

Stay tuned....

Murdoch's telling Ailes to resign or get fired considering how much the allegations are costing him (which, by the way, I'm starting to be convinced that the women who alleged that he sexually harassed them were telling the truth). Either way, Ailes is getting outta Fox.

A $40 million payout is WAAAAY too lenient of a punishment for him. That grotesque sleazebag of garbage should've been shown the door and be told to be happy with the cash he has now; maybe even buy stocks in Alibaba to keep afloat.

I don't care if his sick regime of creating and maintaining successful personalities got him as far as he did; Dude needs help and he deserves his kick down to unemployment.

As the NY Times is reporting, Hannity, O'Reilly and Van Sustren all have clauses that allow them to walk if Ailes is out.

While I don't think Greta would leave, Bill-O and Sean are a toss-up, with Sean getting a slight edge, only because he has an AM circuit to go spew his love for all things flag-related.

Look,

No matter what the press says, Ailes will be paid to be quiet through non-disclosure while still being a paid consultant.

There is really only one way it can end.

Otherwise you have Ailes spewing garbage while FOX says defend your own lawsuits. Ailes needs to be 100% involved in any transition of power or you run the risk of damaging the brand in some dumb way.

Is Kelly up for renewal anytime soon?

Next year she is IIRC.

He should take them all with him. Some reports also include Shep Smith, Bret Baier, and the hosts of FOX and Friends and the Five among those that want to leave if Ailes go.

According to a report on CBS This Morning, James Murdoch's goal is to run FOX News similarly to SKY News. I think that would be a great direction for the network Post-Ailes

Well News Corp NY Post has an interesting cover:

I would think that FOX will hold off on an official statement until after Trump addresses the RNC tonight maybe as a respect kinda thing.

Just a guess.

The folks at FOX News have been way too quiet. I bet if this scandal happened at another network, they'd be all over it.

They are managing the timing of the whole ordeal, and so far they are doing pretty good despite what some think.

You can bet the Hollywood elite are pressuring the Murdoch sons, but Rodger and dad are pushing back in the other direction.

This is a 4-way "learning moment" at FOX.

But where would the 70-dead crowd get their fear-mongering from?

Hope the colossal fat fuck dies before he can cash any of that. Sick sick man and then to trash Gretchen saying that she's upset because you didn't renew her contract? My goodness.
Only, she has a good reason to be so upset as to why he didn't renew her contract! I think part of the reason is because of the dress code that refused to allow her to wear pants even if she wanted to (and that's only a part of the reason), and I'm starting to think that Ailes may have sexually assaulted her too!

And I know some of us might be perverts because some of us like seeing a female reporter's assets or something like that (and believe me, I've heard Eat News, among others, comment on stuff like that on some of his posts), but really, none of us would condone what Roger Ailes did to many of those women, and how the FOX has he got away for sexual assault (and possibly rape) for so long?! Did he have great (but not necessarily good) lawyers that are willing to defend him?!!

Whoa hold on....

You are saying that Ailes is liable for some sexual assault?

You sure you want to use that term because I'm pretty sure there is no accusation of that type in front of any court.

Rape???

Really???

That's felony criminal stuff.

I know, but what I'm basically saying is that I'm starting to believe that the allegations against Ailes may in fact be true.
