TV3 New Zealand is in serious trouble. Its parent, MediaWorks, is selling its TV business, but there's a big possibility that it will not find a buyer, possibly causing TV3 to shut down.

Oh my. That's not good. Newshub goes away and therefore, TVNZ One would be the only one providing nationwide news on TV (other than Prime's news at 5:30PM).

Kinda wonder if ViacomCBS would buy MediaWorks out - it would be an excellent complement to TEN in Australia and it absolutely makes sense to do in this "bigger is better" world of scale.

So if you haven't noticed, it's been 60 years since RTP's flagship newscast "Telejornal" and to honor it, they have a new intro and a modified theme song of their newscast as well.

Apparently Ecuavisa's newscasts got some new graphics, and it looks pretty similar to the CBS O&O graphics.

Those transitions also remind me of the Tribune CBS gfx, as well

After unceremoniously dropping the CFL a long while ago (we'd rather forget their final few seasons), football is back on the CBC with a new contract to air the Vanier Cup - the country's college university football championship. the culmination that had the CFP formula down down perfectly before it even existed (although the fact we only really have four conferences simplifies things).

Their scoreboard is actually pretty nice, though the clock/downage is a little oddly-arranged (but kudos for being different)

TV1 in Bosnia-Herzegovina is now O Kanal. The earthquake that devastated Albania and caused some damage in Bosnia-Herzegovina is the lead story of today's edition of their main newscast:

The whole thing's kind of all over the place -- the open screams Linear Drift, the lower-thirds feel like RenderOn, and I see some hints of the last-gen Access Hollywood look later in the show.

Their headline bed is a library track from NSM and if you were jamming to the opening to Telemundo like I was, I have good news.

Another senior local news anchor is signing off at CTV.

Ken Shaw, the long time anchor of CFTO/CTV Toronto's noon ant 6 PM newscasts, is leaving his post on the anchor desk in January 2020. He will still be part of the CTV News team doing special projects for at least the next year. A Frank magazine article in November had suggested that CTV may have pushed Shaw out as part of a round of layoffs in October.

Shaw is the latest long-serving local news anchors at the CTV network to leave. On November 14, Gord Leclerc, one of CKY/CTV Winnipeg's main anchors for 24 years, was unceremoniously let go after presenting the station's noon newscast.

In September, CFRN/CTV Edmonton's Daryl McIntyre ended his 33-year run as that station's top news presenter; he had stated publicly that he was forced to take a buyout.

In April 2018, CTV also let go Tamara Taggart and Mike Killeen, the two principal anchors at CIVT/CTV Vancouver. Tamara had been at CIVT since the launch of that station in 1999.

Some of the legacy news anchors that remain across the CTV network are Steve Murphy and Bruce Frisko (ATV/CTV Atlantic), Mutsumi Takahashi (CFCF/CTV Montreal), Ian White (CFCN/CTV Calgary), and Jim Chricton (CHWI/CTV Windsor).

CLARIFICATION: Taggart was at CIVT since the launch of that station... in 1997, not 1999. CIVT launched on September 22nd, 1997.

Christine Bentley got fired from CFTO, was anchor of the 6pm longer than Ken Shaw yet he got a few more years than her. Oh well. Nathan Downer is now the 12PM news co-anchor and on January 7, will be the 6PM news co-anchor. I like him.

After almost 16 years at the anchor desk, Guillermo Andino stepped down from presenting America TV's 7pm newscast. He'll move to a mid-morning magazine in February; at the same time, the station will drop the long-running early evening newscast (launched in August 1997) to make way for a newsmagazine, a format that proved successful for the channel.
https://www.lanacion.com.ar/espectaculos/television/la-emotiva-despedida-guillermo-andino-del-noticiero-nid2317767

Over the last couple of years, America TV has canceled many of its newscasts (midday, late night and Sunday evenings) and replaced them with newsmagazines. The station won't shut down its news department because it has a cable news channel called A24: anchors and reporters will continue to appear at both channels.

I don't see the UK doing this but kinda nice seeing BFM TV taking the plunge and the commitment to do this across France.

CIVT-DT (CTV Vancouver) is reportedly retiring Chopper 9 tomorrow (Jan 31), as per this tweet:

Chopper 9 was the first TV news helicopter of its kind in Western Canada (a Bell 206 jetranger, similar to CFTO's helicopter), and CTV Vancouver always promoted the heck out of it. But as of late, the chopper's on-board camera is still in SD. Meanwhile, Global BC/CTN has been flying a Robinson R44 news helicopter since the 2010s, with the chopper getting an HD camera upgrade in the last few years.

Who's left with Choppers in Canada? I think Global still has Choppers in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver with CTV's in Toronto and CBC has none. I think Citytv used to have one for Toronto but even I'm not sure about that.

CTV: Toronto

Global: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton

Citytv: Toronto

TVA: Montreal

Global previously had some sort of exclusivity agreement with CTN across the country, including Toronto. (Backstory: Global got 2 choppers for Toronto- one for Global TV, one for CHCH. When CHCH was sold to Channel Zero, they had to give up the helicopter.) Within the last year, Citytv Toronto signed on with CTN, and now they have helicopter traffic during Breakfast Television. I am not sure if Citytv uses the CTN helicopter for news gathering like what Global does.

Also Global/CTN had a helicopter for Global Winnipeg/CJOB-AM for a time. That was grounded a few years ago, not exactly when.

So I was right! I guess. Lol. I didn't know TVA had one for its flagship. Doesn't Citytv Toronto have a chopper with their sister CFTR?

Citytv Toronto has a helicopter through a partnership with CTN. I don’t know if 680 News also uses CTN for traffic reports in conjunction with Citytv/BT, or if they still have their own aircraft.
