KCBS To Broadcast LA Rams Preseason Games

On Thursday it was announced that KCBS has picked up the rights for three of LA Rams preseason games. One of the preseason games will be held at home on 20 August 2016 versus Kansas City Chiefs, a week later on Saturday 27 August 2016 they be on the road playing the Denver Broncos and their final game will be on the road in Vikings in Minneapolis on Thursday 1 September 2016.

In addition to the games KCBS will broadcast a half hour weekly wrap up show featuring Rams Head Coach Jim Fisher and KCBS Sports Director Jim.

I must say I'm intrigued that KCBS would bid on these rights because LA Rams games would air on KTTV.

The only regular season game KCBS will have is against the Buffalo BIlls on 9 October.

The Rams first preseason game occurs on Saturday 16 August airing on ESPN. The Rams online schedule makes no mention if it will be simulcast on KABC.

Not surprising since WFOR airs pre-season games of the Miami Dolphins as well.

The Dolphins however are an AFC team so WFOR gets a majority of the games.

And WCBS in NYC.

And KTVT here in DFW for the Cowboys

They probably just won out the bid for these games. Nothing really unusual.

Well, CBS did manage to get some Cowboys games to air on CBS 11. Probably bid those too so that their preseason deal didn't go to waste (not that it would've mattered that much). About the chargers however, who are the broadcasters for their preseason games now?

Read up on NFL media rights. Regular season games don't air on a station so that their pickup of preseason games doesn't "go to waste". There's rules and packages that dictate what network games air on.

KTLA has been airing KTVU's Raiders pre-season games for the last few seasons and that will continue this year. Nobody airs the 49ers or Chargers pre-season games in Los Angeles (KCBS did until last season). Raiders are an AFC team and Fox's KTVU airs NFC games during the regular season. You'll often see a tv promo for KTVU during the games on KTLA.

Here in DC, we get Redskins preseason games on WRC/NBC4, yet Monday Night games will air on WDCA/My20.
And for some reason you also get Ravens games on WJLA - but no Redskins in Baltimore aside from what's carried on CSN.

Washington is considered a part of the Ravens' broadcast territory.

Also, the Ravens fanbase also extends to DC.

We had Redskins preseason games here in Los Angeles for a season, on KTLA several years ago; before the NFL put down their foot had those (and eventually Rams preseason games) blocked in the L.A. market, thanks to the Chargers and Raiders.

Since the Rams is gone from St. Louis. What territory would St. Louis be in now? starting the football season.

Pretty much an open territory...geographically, the Chiefs and Bears are the closest teams, but it's up to one of the stations there to carry the games. It wouldn't be surprised if the Rams' preseason games are still carried in St. Louis at least for this preseason..

The Colts took out a full-page ad campaigning for fans, and I'd also imagine some southern-fringe Rams fans latch onto the Titans or even the Saints.

Bumping this up...

KABC will simulcast the Rams' preseason game vs. Dallas from ESPN on August 13th, and supposedly will also simulcast the team's MNF opener at San Francisco on Sept. 12th. Thing is, however, the September 12th date is also the season premiere of "Dancing with the Stars".

The station is also producing, in conjunction with the Rams, a two-hour block of team-centric programming that will air every Saturday night during the NFL season--Rams 360 and Rams Nation.

Here in the Seattle area, the Tribune Media-owned KCPQ 13 Fox will air all four Seahawk preseason football games. The Tegna-owned KONG-TV--KING 5 NBC's sister station--may simulcast ESPN's live Monday Night Football game involving the Seahawks hosting the Buffalo Bills. Go Seahawks!

Could KABC perhaps get permission to move DWTS to KDOC or even take the east coast feed at 5pm pacific?

I was thinking mostly the same thing...another option too is the Live Well subchannel; it has market-wide cable coverage and still in HD, but obviously not on the satcos.

Rams vs. the 49ers? A terrible team vs. the worst team in the league. The "hype" of a Los Angeles football team will soon die in the ratings. We don't care in Los Angeles (about loser teams). In the meantime, a real contender for the playoffs, the Raiders, will again be airing their preseason games on KTLA. http://ktla.com/2016/07/27/2016-raiders-on-ktla-5/

Looking at the guides, both KABC & KGO will follow the eastern pattern before airing the Rams/49ers game on the 12th. Both will be airing World News Tonight at 3:30pm/PT, followed by their respective 4pm shows. Then it'll air DWTS Live at 5pm. Then it'll jump to the game coverage at 7pm.
