I hope they don't promote Shannon or Jackie to her spot. They are okay, but not good enough to anchor in place of Wendy. WTAE has some BIG shoes to fill because Wendy was fired. A lot of people adored her. This probably won't do them too much good unless they hire somebody new.

That is a shame she was fired. She was so good. Doespecially anybody think another station in Pittsburgh will hire her? Who will be her replacement?

I don't think another station will hire her in Pittsburgh (right now; she's damage goods) unless she has some social media training. I don't know why everyone is shocked that she is fired, she didn't follow the station policy. If it was anyone else they would have canned them after the post was made, no questions asked. This is a lesson that "If you have any doubt something on your social media account can be considered insensitive, racial or anything that would be perceived as so, then don't post." It's unfortunate she was fired but this business is cut throat. She had other incidents so that too might have played a part. Now the station need to put Sally and Michelle in her place and move on.

Last year at WCSH/Portland, ME anchor/reporter Jackie Ward wrote a story on social media about a purported racial event she witnessed in town. It raised quite a ruckus but didn't result in any publicly-disclosed disciplinary action. She left the station a couple of months later and now works as a reporter at KPIX/San Francisco.

The problem here is that she's a PUBLIC FIGURE. ON TV. IN A MAJOR MEDIA MARKET.

Regardless if you think she should've got fired or not (personally I feel she should've been fired) ... This would've been all prevented with a simple 'my views may or not be those of WTAE or Hearst Television' disclaimer.

We live in a day where social media amplifies things in a heartbeat. She should've used more restraint.

I don't worry about Wendy tho. Her next stop is FOX News or Trump press secretary.

I think in this case it is a somewhat of an over reaction. I stated the other day that she should have gotten remedial social media training as should have the entire staff.

And from what was said, this firing was not done by local management, but corporate tied WTAE managements hands and said you have to let her go. It also, might not been a good look when she stated she was taking a couple of days off and going to Disney World. In my opinion that might have sent this over the top for corp. to can her.

Has WTAE really not posted something on their website or on social media letting folks know she's gone? If they have, I haven't seen it. How can they not ... everyone else is reporting it? WTAE and Hearst management have handled this whole thing so horribly. Majorly botched it. Their (in)action made it blow up even bigger than it would have on its own, I believe.

Plus I would add that there are no longer any true "locals" in the station Management anymore. Just a bunch of transplants that have no real clue about local issues.

I can only think of one TV station in Ca. that does any type of editorial and that is KSBW-8 in Salinas.

KMBC does weekly editorials from its GM...

A lot of Raycom stations do too...

"With a strong belief in community, Raycom Media television stations take editorial positions on key community issues."

WISC in Madison has had daily editorials from a dedicated editorial director for a very long time...

WTVT anchor John Wilson did editorials under the "My View" and later, "Outrage of the Week" banners before his retirement.

I believe WPLG had regular editorials at one point but I'm not sure if they still do.

There is also, of course, the beloved Mark Hyman...

I don't think it's as uncommon as it seems

WBAL's done them for over a decade. They usually record two and air during the weekends.
