Viper550 268 Posted February 27, 2016 Share Posted February 27, 2016 Not sure if they introduced it this morning or yesterday, but CBC News Network has done some refreshes again. The general look is the same (it's hard to believe, but their overall package, dating to 2009, has aged very well ... besides that one time they absolutely messed things up to make it 16:9-oriented), but the graphics have gotten a few tweaks. The bug is now a wider white box with a horizontal logo, but it animates a split into two red and black colored boxes, with the logo text in one and the host name in the right. The main L3 can now also render a lower black stripe when needed (sort of like how CNN's Gotham graphics do that to keep the headline up while putting an anchor name up), but they're still the same basic style (white box, DIN) and have new horizontal animations. Additionally, the ticker area now seems to use similar metrics to the ones used for local news, but with a yellow background for the time flipper. Overall, this actually DOES look better than the previous design. They still seem to be afraid of the right side of the screen (Yep. Still a mysterious gap. That L3 should be wider, but at least being pushed by the bigger bug helps), and the live bug (which is now above the main logo) is positioned a little high. Still, a good refresh regardless. Journalist 893 Posted February 27, 2016 Share Posted February 27, 2016 it's hard to believe, but their overall package, dating to 2009, has aged very well Oof, w ha t I would agree the CBC butchered the graphics ever since the decided to scrap the 4:3 safe area policy back in 2013, however, the 2009 gfx package remains, if not, one of the best graphics packages of all time. This legendary package has a set an standard in Canadian news that would inspire those such as CTV, CHCH, Global and Citytv - and the CBC done this 4 years before anyone else in their industry. --- On the L3s...wow. Viper550 268 Posted February 29, 2016 Author Share Posted February 29, 2016 The bug for non-rolling programming (i.e. The National) is just the text from the "split" bug with "NETWORK" in a grey box (translucent, obviously).
