Gari's News Horizon

I would like to discuss about one of my favorite news music themes that I like, is News Horizon by Gari Media Group. For the past decade, WTVA and WTOK used Gari's News Horizon. And today, no stations are using the news music theme. The last time I was riding on Interstate 55 in Mississippi, I heard the news music theme when I picked up WTVA on my portable TV set in 2005. I also discovered the title of the news music theme when I first discovered Gari's website and listened to the samples. The sample had morning cuts, promo beds, image cuts, morning and primary opens, station IDS, etc.

Nowadays, News Horizon isn't listed on the website anymore as news music samples and the only thing we can listen to the samples, is to go on SouthernMedia-NMSA, the sample is ten seconds long, and News Music Now, a minute long.

I also dug up videos when WTVA used cuts from the News Horizon theme by going on the Internet Wayback Machine. When I saw this video, they used an entertainment cut of the package in 2008: http://web.archive.org/web/20080215123857/http://www.wtva.com/video_news.htm

I also found another cut of this package WTVA used when they showed the morning promo at the very beginning, also from 2008: http://web.archive.org/web/20080929190807/http://www.wtva.com/video_news.htm

I do not know about this cut. They used it back in 2007, I don't know if it was part of News Horizon or not: http://web.archive.org/web/20071213083951/http://www.wtva.com/video_news.htm

And I also found a news topical theme (probably some type of a developing story cut) in one of the promos WTVA used in 2008: https://vimeo.com/52242161

The News Horizon package WTVA used in the main run was from 2004 to 2006. Because of the station used some cuts News Horizon in their promos instead of using The One and Only theme, WTVA used the package from 2004 to 2008 based on its use.

IIRC, News Horizon was composed for Hearst's WWWB in Tampa. The plan was to start their own 10pm newscast with News Horizon as their theme; but then they lost their WB affiliation becoming WMOR in the process, and the ebryonic plans for a newscast were scrapped. The affiliation went to WTTA as part of a larger deal with their then owner Sinclair and the WB; so I guess WWWB's news was yet another news department Sinclair ended up killing (albeit indirectly).

I didn't know about WWWB going to use the theme, and I thought WTVA was the first station to use the theme. To point things out in the WB era, WWWB tried to start a 10pm news broadcast, but it was scrapped when they lost the affiliation with the WB, becoming WMOR. And many years later, WTVA used the theme between 2004 and 2006 in the main run, and WTOK used one cut in their talent opens between 2007 and 2010.

To me, News Horizon is one of the underused, underrated, news music themes out there. As I recall, the theme was composed for the WB affiliates when I last visited Gari's website in 2008 before becoming Gari Media Group and Gari Music. Today, News Horizon isn't listed in the news music samples list on the current Gari website anymore.
