NBC Previews Rio 2016 look

NBC released its first promo video for their upcoming coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games today, giving a hint of the graphic look that we'll be seeing two summers from now. Similar to the look of ESPN's coverage of the World Cup from Brazil last year, the Rio 2016 logo reveals that the broadcast will have a definite Brazilian flair. The Rio logo is also a significant departure from the NBC Olympics logos from the past few Games, which all shared a shield motif. I'm guessing this Brazilian-inspired look will spread to the overall design for coverage not using the standard IOC look and feel.

Watch the promo here.

Welcome to 2015. 3D is out, flat design is in.

Flat design makes sense on the smaller screens where people are actually interacting with elements.

On big TVs or theatrical, where you're creating an intro billboard you need depth to maximize the impact.

When you think of the great sports intros over the decades, it's the ones that mastered depth that stand out.
