Scripps - General Discussion

Message added by Weeters,

Thread Note: Since Scripps has indicated they intend to run ION Media as a separate entity from their existing (mostly) news-producing stations, ION discussion has been relocated to a new thread.

I remember someone on here figured out where the Scripps websites hide before they go live during WKBW's integration...

WXYZ Investigative Reporter Ross Jones is leaving Detroit for Scripps Washington D.C. newsroom. He had been at WXYZ since 2005.

This is the second person in 3 weeks to be promoted by Scripps from WXYZ. Hopefully this doesn't hurt what has been an improving product.

And i'm sure more changes are on the way. This station for the last 5 years or so has had A LOT of turn over.

Yeah, it's a big loss. I'm guessing that had they offered Dan the 4pm show, he probably would have stayed. Honestly, he deserved it. Cristin was a top notch investigative reporter. Plus, they were really well liked. They still have Alison Ash and Melissa Mecija on TEAM 10. Although, I have yet to see any openings to cover Cristin's spot. Maybe they'll have Ariel do that? Who knows. If KNSD was smart, they'd try and poach Alison away from 10 for their own I-Team.

The entire "investigate unit" is a complete joke. Christin Severence just did not move the needle.

She never broke any earth shattering stories since most were spoon fed from other Scripps outlets. Choice of wardrobe and delivery/ execution was marginal at best.

Remember the unit was gutted last year with the loss of JW and the EP of the unit.

Calling any of the 10 News "investigators" by that title is really another lie and dis-service to the viewers.

What formal "Investigator" training have any of the 3 had??? NONE!

Allison Ash gets a pass for real experience in the field...but Melissa and Christin have zero courthouse, legal, criminal or civil process experience....

Thus is why the 10-news I-team only sticks to lost puppys and crazy viewer emails for stories.

well if the Journal stations are going to adapt the Scripps V2 graphics we can expect them to be around for a few more years. I was kinda hoping that they would role out an all new package

Yeah it's a slow process because they have to get out of the Journal systems and onto the new Scripps systems. That takes some time.

A new package would have been nice or at least some sort of refresh perhaps; their CNN-esqued L3 always looked too busy for me.

Here are a few screen caps from The Now San Diego promo...

Luckily I was able to get these screen caps. I don't watch KGTV much, and between the new stupid format they're using during the newscasts and the terrible weather girl, not much of an incentive to come back.

I like it. Looks like the same graphics package the rest of the Scripps stations use.

It is except for the icons for sun and clouds etc. seem to vary with each station they own for some reason... You'd think they'd have only one sun/cloud/snowflake/thunderstorm icon...

Also some stations have the highs and lows on top of each other for each day rather than the angles they used here.

Agreed and I don't get Tulsa News I get OKC News instead so it's impossible for me to actually tell the difference between KOCO's Hearst Weather Graphics and KJRH's Scripps Weather Graphics.

Not bad on the graphics department though I don't think that show will last long.

Even if the show does poorly, it will stick around as I doubt KGTV/Scripps will want to invest in syndicated programming to fill that hour. Who's to say that those syndies will fare any better? Not to mention that having The Now, they get to keep all ad revenue in-house. If they need to tweak it, they will but all indications are that The Now San Diego will be more hard-news oriented than what other Scripps stations have.

I'm somewhat surprised that WTMJ hasn't gotten The Now. They've got continuous newscasts from 3:00 to 6:30 (7:00, if you include "Wisconsin Tonight.") One would think they'd jump at the opportunity to rebrand at least a part of that, if only to reduce that nonstop block of news (albeit with a slightly different newscast).

I don't know how well the ratings would do in Milwaukee if The Now expanded to Milwaukee
