Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion

Fox, it appears, is less than pleased about the purported Sinclair-Tribune deal and may (repeat, MAY) try to scuttle it by using its affiliation agreements as leverage. Meanwhile, Nexstar has emerged as another possible suitor. Shades of Media General?

You know things are FUBAR when Perry Sook emerges as a legitimate white knight.

Sinclair is launching a Project Baltimore Investigative Unit based out of their Hunt Valley headquarters dedicated to investigation the Baltimore City Public School System and the Baltimore County Public Schools. There will be seven journalists dedicated to this unit which will investigate budgets, facilities, test scores, teacher pay, school violence, athletics, unions and other components of running a school district.

A Sinclair station complaining about bias? That's rich!

I'm sure they're extra wounded whenever someone reminds them they're a UHF subchannel of a MyNetworkTV affiliate, rather than their heritage position because Sinclair couldn't bear to part with the latter's license.:p

Sinclair news veep Scott Livingston is encouraging viewers to drop a dime on their local station if they see biased coverage

Atleast they're trying. How will they handle those annoying must runs from corporate?

I do find the comments about the national media are off. I think the big three do a good job objectively.

The reason it's off is because they're trying to peddle the same BS the White House has been spewing about "Fake News" and trying to paint themselves as "The Truth". They've used the same exact talking points over and over again anytime someone accuses Sinclair of coverage that's favorable to the current White House administration.

It's no secret that Sinclair is very supportive of who is currently in the White House right now, which is why I find it so hysterical when they get so defensive when people call them out on it.

Remember... they're a Republican comany with a Republican owner with Republican bias in favor of a Republican president.

They also favor Republican values.

But a vast majority of the news employees skew left.....far left.

Maybe Sinclair had a "come to Jesus" moment after the election, and now they want to be unbiased and only report the truth.

Just maybe they are "born again" and just want to be truthful and loved by all. Maybe they changed...maybe they are new and improved.

Naaaaawwww...

Make no mistake that video was directed to Sinclair news employees as a warning to play by the "rules" according to Sinclair.

It's their sandbox, and they get to make the rules.

We are just going to have to accept that 99.9% of the news outlets have a slant.

"Slant" is now considered part of the demo...

"Sell the slant" as they say at MSNBC, FOX and CNN sales divisions.

In truth, they are more insidious than an openly biased propaganda machine like Fox and Breitbart are.

And crying "bias" at first seems to fit in with the long-standing "hurr durr the lamestream media is bad for you hurr durr blah blah blah" bellyaching common among most on the right.

This time, though, it's a direct and blatant shot against all network news operations. Want to air anything critical of any elected Republican? Watch as your network feeds get cut by "accident" and we can get away with it.

They need to be careful or networks may warn them (or strip affiliations)...digital subchannels provide more options for the networks to walk away from Sinclair.

This story involves the channel TBD...http://toofab.com/2017/03/24/youtube-series-raises-questions-over-hollywood-ripping-off-digital-creators-exclusive/

It's worth a read; apparently the studio behind the web series "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries," "Emma Approved," and "Frankenstein, M.D.," struck a deal with TBD to air the programs on the subchannel.

The weird parts are:

1. The Youtube videos of said shows were recut to 30 minutes to fit commercial breaks in

2. No one bothered to tell the actors, writers, producers or crews from each show

3. The shows started airing February, but it wasn't until March that an actor from one of the three shows found out

Another actor from one of the series contacted SAG-AFTRA to ask about residuals; THIS part is worth a read!

Who do you think is at fault here?? To me, this is like Fox re-airing the 2003 smash TV hit "Joe Millionaire" late on Saturday nights without telling the producers, Evan Marriott, or any of the people involved with the show!!

Here the ftvlive report and the video.

That's the face of a man who's sold his soul...

Interestingly, the "content concerns" tab doesn't appear on some of the Sinclair news-share stations' sites (though their actual news content varies -- some have none [WRLH/WPGH/KSAS], some are a complete ripoff of their partner station's content [WMSN])...

...except WDKY:

Is anyone familiar with how the SBG news-share arrangements work? The partnering stations must have content control...even on the ones branded as a standalone show. Is WDKY/WKYT's different?

As long as they aren't actively pre-empting network programming (if something goes against their "views"), that's the only way a network could cry foul.

Now if they try the same stunt they pulled with Nightline back in 2004, then that may cause a problem.

Given the growth of retrans and network reverse compensation since then, the obligation to carry network content is heightened even more.
