Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion

And just like that, Sinclair now owns KJZZ.

It was closed on Friday. Was greenlighted two weeks prior on the 3rd.

Anyone think they'll move Jeopardy & Wheel to KUTV?

I think it would be a good move, but didn't know they had a 3pm news or 3pm local program " 2 NEWS The Refresh" followed by Jeopardy and move Wheel to 6:30. ET could move over to KJZZ...Sounds like what they should do, but who knows.

Yeah. Originally, KUTV was on at 4:00pm until moving the news to 3:00pm but then later became The Refresh. It was supposed to expand to Las Vegas on KSNV, but that never went through.

Sinclair slapped with a $ 9.5 Million fine for illegally negotiating retransmission consent for stations they didn't "own or control'.

I'm not a Sinclair hater, but that makes 2 fines for illegal operations/negotiations, how many more of these will they rack up before they become RKO and are forced out of the television business.

If you force them out of the TV business....then the FCC cannot continue to fine, and collect these giant fines. They are worth more to the FCC "In" business then out of business.

Both WMSN's and WRLH's websites have a new look. FINALLY.

http://fox47.com/

http://foxrichmond.com/

Now will they please dump Daily News and get Glass or Curves. Daily News is still a good news music package and all but it's ten years old. Plus those graphics on the two stations have got to go! It's like Sinclair forgot about them or something.

EDIT: WTVZ's (Hampton Roads) website has the new look as well. http://mytvz.com/

Apparently the Jumbotron outside the WJLA headquarters in Arlington came down. Apparently they are upgrading it to modern HD technology. Back in 2012 a HD board was approved but one of WJLA and the property developer's requests was for a static logo for sponsorship. They would have been in the form of an L bar with the bottom corner of displaying the ad and the top part of the L displaying community ads. Unfortunately it never was updated because of the expense. For a while before the 2012 vote WJLA was unable to display their newscasts because the old board couldn't handle the HD signal (couldn't they center cut it?) and was displaying radar and weather graphics.

The old screen.

The proposal for advertising that failed.

To be honest the old screens location looks like it would only be visible from the road or across the street. I think there was another open area on the building where they could have placed it.

What about the audio?

Are there a couple giant concert blasters on the roof somewhere?

Doubt it. I imagine a much easier way to get viewers to watch and listen would be to install monitors in the lobby Windows and have those directional dome speakers where only you could hear under it.

I seem to remember seeing an image from the 90s on the Jumbotron in Times Square during the OJ Simpson trial carrying an NBC feed with text urging them to tune into a LP radio station. Doubt that would be useful now with people no longer carrying around Walkmans with an FM radio built in.

Maybe they could have a section in their app to listen to the audio? They could set it up where people within say a block or two radius of the building can listen in. It shouldn't be that carried given apps and some radiostations geoblock their signals - albeit this would be a much narrower zone.

Big news out of WJLA, looks like Leon Harris will be leaving the station.

wonder if Sinclair's management had anything to do with this.

Given Sinclair's history of turning everything it touches into crap WUSA would be very smart to poach talent away from WJLA

Probably not; Leon Harris was a former CNN'er so it was probably a case of ''90's salary number in 2016 they can't pick up any longer' under Sinclair budgeting. Also you know they want talent that doesn't mind doing NC8 regularly rather than an occasional 'cherry on top' as it was earlier.

I'm curious would Leon Harris have to sit out a non compete since his contract was not renewed? Or are non competes in place for when talent willingly leaves the station?

It all depends on what was negotiated on his exit. It's a pretty safe bet he can do as he pleases, but they may have paid him gobs to stay on the beach.

Don't bet on the gobs of money.

Sources told my sources that sources said the sources in the another source's town knew about this.
