Sinclair gets raked over the coals...

AGAIN...

this time by Bloomberg.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2017-07-20/the-sinclair-revolution-will-be-televised-it-ll-just-have-low-production-values

I wonder how many stations keep their supplies locked away in their 2 lock closets.....and what would have happened if David Smith was still distributing pornos...

If he was, that would be the first time a Sinclair newscast would be watchable.

On a serious note, that was a really good article and really shows how they're just money hungry people who will say whatever crap they believe will help make them more money. That said, I'm sure we're going to see another letter from Scott Livingston complaining about how persecuted he feels.

The closet think made me laugh. The whole Keurig thing made me laugh - don't they know how expensive those pods are. They should of got one of those coffee makers that make eight things - something like a vending machine. Taking away coffee from the newsroom would cause a riot.

I wonder if they actually sprang the $$$ for the real coffee ones, or went down to Costco to get the cheapo stuff...

Still won't change a damn thing. Sinclair will play the victim card and Republicans will fall for it because Republicans.

And Paid Off will let them get all of Tribune Broadcasting with next to no divestures (forget about the DOJ coming in to save the day, cause they won't).

I hate Pai and Sessions but did they kill your cat and hurt your family?

I promise to think of your sexyness when I count my profits from the sale. I could make at least 4 or 5 dollars when you factor my cut off the 300 thousand shares.

Sin-Star will merge in 2019...just before the election.

Here's an alternate (and just as scary?) thought?

If Democrats can take power in 2020, could they be so beholden to the left-wing base and demand the opposite for Sinclair - a takeover and shutdown of the company, leaving 200 (or many more?) stations shuttered? I know this is one of the lightning rod issues for the anti-Trump side, and they hate them for their politics more than anything. Such could also lead to messy court cases.

Besides the obvious constitutional issues with the govt taking over a media company...by force...

I guess the short answer to you question could be "Yes...anything is possible by 2020."...

Realistically...

The dems don't care about the deal...or they would have tried to stop it. Once the deal is done it's on to the next big deal. By 2020 this should be real old news.

But as we have learned in the past year...

Never say "No-way"....cuz we will all be wrong.

Why would they suddenly oppose something that they don't oppose now?

Why would they care in 2020?

It's only a 1bil deal....not an 80bil deal like Time Warner / ATT.

It's chump change.

But i'm sure we all agree that anything can happen.

Anything.

They've been so much talk about this, months before the Sinclair-Tribune deal was made. They even said they were going to launch a national cable channel, and as you see four years later, that hasn't happened.

So I take this with a giant grain of sea salt. I'll believe it when I see it.

Probably the easiest way for them to achieve that is to acquire Fox News from NewsCorp.

*Cough*

WGN America isn't going to exist in a year, is it?

O'Reilly? Hannity? And Sinclair denys that their must-runs are conservative?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

I will say that some on the left have gone too far as well. They are also misidentifying several stations as Sinclair whenever a conservative politician appears on their newscasts (they have to sometimes, even in markets where Sinclair is absent).

I've seen tweets calling out WTVG (Gray), WOWK (Nexstar), KRIV (Fox O&O) and WCNC (Tegna), at least, incorrectly calling for boycotts or action saying they were owned by Sinclair (when they aren't).

The intricacies of local TV station ownership are too much for a lot of people on both sides. I had to explain to someone that WLOS was not owned by ABC and its newscasters didn't work for ABC.

Don't even start with the confusion that is syndication with 'regular people'. It doesn't help that in most places Ellen usually airs on an NBC affiliate, so they think it's produced by the network, while everyone will think the Sony game shows are from ABC themselves. Just this week TVNewser ran with a faulty story that 20th Television's weeknight RightThisMinute ripoff will be hosted by Billy Bush (it isn't) and even they were saying it was being produced for the Fox network when it very clearly isn't.

And then there was a few years ago when the local conservative talk radio station with the same calls was forcing the TV station that hasn't done a thing with them for 20 years ago having to state over and over that they have nothing to do with the radio station and were completely neutral to the issue being pushed through the state capitol. Times like those are where I wish the 'you break up, one of you gets new calls' rule was still in place.

Yeah!

It's like one stupid tourist gets stung by a jelly fish, or steps on a sting-ray...and I get blamed.

Bunch of haters...and besides you decided to "protect" all those yummy seals and otters just so you could all feel good about yourselves and take your selfies with.

The thing I need to remember is not to get short with some people here that I think should "know better". Everyone here has a different level of interest and understanding of these complex subjects. We all kinda educate each other anyway. I have to have more patience sometimes cuz it's a little flaw of mine.

I, too, have my doubts WGN America would ever actually turn into a conservative network. Though I'm sure Sinclair could find a place to put Bill O, whether as a more telegenic commentator in the must runs or in his own show in a sleepy timeslot back to back with Sheryl Atkisson — or perhaps even daily!

Bill O got his start doing, more or less, commentary on local TV, so this seems to be the most likely place for him. No way he'd go to scrappy channels like OANN or even NewsMax. They are the Big Lots of cable news/talk channels.

OANN can't afford any of those guys. OANN can't even pay for 2ply toilet paper.

Sinclair wants this deal in the bag, but you also have to ask how much are they willing to spend on the continuation of a specific agenda?

Would it be worth it to them in the long run?

We all see how stuff can flip and backfire in a second.

I highly doubt that Sinclair will pick up either Hannity or O'Reilly. These guys have egos the size of Jupiter and will demand a salary to match that ego. There is no way Sinclair's penny pinching bosses will shell out that kind of money for these two.

They'll just turn WGN America into a rerun heavy channel with programming acquired on the cheap.
