Sinclair Broadcast Group - General Discussion

It can't just be a bad picture choice by a rookie producer?

How does anyone know the pic was not automatically generated based on a few standard keywords?

So since it's a Sinclair owned station then the mistake it racial in nature?

What a crock of poo poo.

I see a guy in handcuffs..who is not related to the story presented.

It's a guy who's a prominent social activist campaigning for police reform - thus, he's a mortal enemy among Republicans. And he grew up in Baltimore... not that far from Hunt Valley.

Analogous to this would be if there was a story about opioid addiction and abuse in Cape Girardeau, MO, and a TV station tweets about it with an unflattering picture of Rush Limbaugh (a well-known Oxycotin addict and a Cape Girardeau native). You and I know that if that happened, Rush and every single Republican would condemn the TV station as part of this non-existant "left-wing conspiracy" and frame it as libel.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! The Heathens of Hunt Valley will always apologize for something they don't really mean.

Just like the time they greatly edited a video of a Baltimore protest march so it would sound like they're making an anti-law enforcement chant.

From Zurawik's piece ten days ago:

In 2014, WBFF misleadingly edited and aired video of a protest march to make it look and sound as if protesters were chanting “Kill a cop!”

But what the marchers had actually been chanting in response to Tawanda Jones, a Baltimore woman and protest leader whose brother had died while in police custody in 2013, was, “We won’t stop. We can’t stop till killer cops are in cell blocks.”

_________

There was instant community outrage to the video. Sinclair apologized and fired two staffers.

“I have looked into this situation,” Scott Livingston, vice president of news at Sinclair, wrote in an email to me after the event. “We sincerely regret the error. We have apologized to the people directly affected. We did a thorough investigation and took appropriate action. We have reviewed our internal process to ensure something such as this doesn't happen again.”

Sinclair did take the matter seriously. But Livingston did not answer my question about how that misleading report found its way onto air.

You can't make that up either. And this was a few months before the Freddie Gray incident.

I'm talking about right now...

What do you want?

A cash payout for a little picture gaff?

I didn't know who that guy was in the picture. Assuming I did is a racist conclusion on your part.

next...

You have assumed the "producer" was white....racist.

How do you know it's not a black or Asian producer???

More assumptions of race???

BTW...

I'm mixed race ...so I think I handle the truth.

No matter who the producers were, how do you know that they weren't required to do this by company management? At least two of their stations that we know of have done this with that particular picture. And if they are truly sorry, then they and the parent company need to take action against whoever did it. Of course, that's wishful thinking.

Eat, most wouldn't know until it was pointed out that, oh yeah, that's a picture of DeRay McKesson getting arrested for civil disobedience. That's the point. It IS deceptive and misleading to the people who would follow KBOI on Twitter, and a personal attack on DeRay, who sure as hell didn't deserve this. (DeRay did retweet KBOI's "apology," which shows a lot of graciousness on his part. To me, it has as much value as a used diaper.)

People will laugh and say, "oh, Sinclair wouldn't use their power, clout and Republican favoritism as a weapon against anyone they don't agree with." And this is the latest example of why those people just don't get it, and never will.

I betcha Sinclair will have Sheryl Atkinson target John Oliver with a slanderous story in the next few weeks. Even if it's made up, as Sheryl has a history of doing, the damage will be done.

And with enablers of this misbehavior leading the FCC and DOJ, it will only get worse. Then you wonder if it's not propaganda ... but the early markings of soft fascism.

Fascism?

Serious?

Don't become too much of a victim now.

Just take the cash...you know exactly that's the end game.

Be a victim...collect cash.

It's a poor choice for a picture...nothing more.

Short answer is no. No matter what platform they are using to post their tweets, you can see the picture you're posting with your post. Once was a really bad mistake. But to post the same picture TWICE to two different stories, gives rise to intentional acts.

Myron, I used to enjoy reading your posts and I used to think you were logical and reasonable (except when you insisted NBC Boston was not going to happen).

Eat News, I always enjoyed your humor, although there were quite a few times I thought you crossed the line with your humor (related to real life tragedies), and a lot of times when you were overdoing it that it wasn't funny anymore. I have a hard time telling when you're serious sometimes.

That being said, this is the type of partisan bickering most people don't enjoy. Enough already, most of us don't want to here the back and forth. We can turn on the TV and listen to the Pelosis and the Trumps and the McConnells and Schumers of the world if we want to hear it. We don't need either of your far right or far left agendas here.

Lets get something real clear...

I'm not a dem or a repub....I'm team USA.

I'm not rightwing or leftwing.

My politics don't matter to anyone...nobody cares.

I think we both had our say...and it was directly related to TV.

Myron has spunk...

and I'm just bonkers.

Politics and TV are directly related in many ways. It's a fine line keeping it civil and on topic. I try not to let it drag out into and endless thread.

I hear what you are saying and I'm sure some others feel the same way.

I will do my part in keeping it down as much as possible. One or two civil responses are acceptable as long as it does not spiral out of control.

BTW...

If I WAS "right" ... I would want Myron to be my "left".

New M&A.

Back on April 20, Deerfield Media has bought K45CX-D in Park City, UT for $1.75M. The sale was greenlighted June 22.

Even though they didn't form a JSA with Sinclair (they could've bought the station outright because the station is an LP), the Salt Lake Tribune said that they've made a partnership with Sinclair-owned KJZZ to air some of Park City TV's programming on KJZZ's signal.

Didn't sign a JSA, huh? What do we make of this, then?

And what does Deerfield want with that station anyway?

Doesn't look like KJZZ has a translator in Park City. Considering that it's one of the largest cities outside the Wasatch Range (and probably one of the wealthiest areas of Utah), maybe Deerfield thought it would be worth while?

We won't know until stuff starts happening. Only God or whoever you believe in has the answer until then.

For starters you have those 2 weeks of the Sundance that generates a bunch of cash for the area. if you are looking to do something hyper-local , it just might be worth it. Steady tourism...skiing, mountain biking....money.

Heck you might be able to run Popeye cartoons, Law and Order reruns 50 weeks a year.

Then you run 2 weeks of boutique Sundance programming for the rich fools.

You would be programming for a transient population.

Dream station....sign me up!

The cynic in me is saying that Sinclair will keep KSTU's IP, place it on the Deerfield-owned LP signal and a KUTV sub, and spin off KSTU's license to Howard Stirik.

Sinclair gets raked over the coals...

AGAIN...

this time by Bloomberg.

I wonder how many stations keep their supplies locked away in their 2 lock closets.....and what would have happened if David Smith was still distributing pornos...

The test chart was worth the click...

Yes Sinclair is low budget...yes they are typical weaselly goofs. I don't want them in my hood. But if I'm stuck with them, then I will watch and laugh at them just like I do with Scripps and whoever my flavor of the week is .

At KBEX we keep all the office supplies under lock and key . People steal stuff, and it's a problem that has become 10 times worse over the last 10 years. We lock it up...just like we lock up the liquor.

So much for trust.

Are you as excited as I am about the first O.J. Simpson "Tweet" and Facebook post???

I wouldn't be surprised if K45CX-D becomes KSTU-LD. All they have to do is place it on either a sub channel of KJZZ or KUTV, gut KSTU's news department like a fish, and presto! "Fox Utah"!

Oh god no. KSTU is as good as it is. If anything, Sinclair will sell KSTU to someone else. Heartland Media perhaps?
