The community TV news war is on in the Westchester County NY suburbs (and nearby counties in the same lower Hudson Valley region of the NY City suburbs). Verizon's phone company TV channel FiOS 1 started its lower Hudson Valley channel in May 2014, run by RNN, a NY City market broadcast TV station headquartered in Rye Brook in Westchester County. (Its main transmitter is licensed to a mid Hudson Valley countryside suburb in Ulster County, WRNN 48, formerly on 62, Kingston, NY, main transmitter in Beacon, NY in Dutchess County.) It is up against Cablevision's Rainbow Programming division's News 12 Westchester, which debued in 1995 and is based in Yonkers in Westchester County. News 12 Husdon Valley was added in 2005 for neigboring Rockland and Orange Counties, sharing some of the News 12 Westchester feed, though having some of its base in Nyack in Rockland County. Below are photos from the 10 PM hour Thursday 6/5/14. The FiOS 1 photo, from an evening news rebroadcast, shows anchor Mike Gilliam, who previously worked in NY City on PIX 11 News (WPIX 11) and before that for NY City sisters FOX 5 News (WNYW) and the former My 9 News (WWOR). The News 12 Westchester photo shows Night Edition anchorwoman Suzanne Colucci.
