Just finished watching the 6pm with a tease for the 10pm on WPHL. Rick is featured with Sharrie, Adam and Ducis.

Hmmm, interesting. Perhaps Brian wanted off the 10pm to be home with kids. I think Rick’s kid is older and getting ready for college, so the noon/10pm switch makes sense for them. I hope that they are then going to test pairings at 4pm, with Sarah being the frontrunner. I do like Jeanette and Maggie, and think they are better at the anchor desk than Christie, but one of them should be put on weekend evenings with Walter, while the other two serving as fill-ins.

Maybe but we don't know for sure yet. We'll see. All I can say is congrats to Rick for the upgrade from noon to 10, and congrats to Brian for becoming the afternoon anchor (I'll miss him at 10pm). I just wish the station announced these pairings beforehard to end the madness.

I hope too. Also, agree on Jeanette or Maggie getting a slot someday. They are fantastic behind the desk. Christie too, but them more.

Noon today had generic opens with Brian and Sarah anchoring. Jeanette gave the 4pm preview from the newsroom and Alicia did an in-studio story in the 12:30 half hour. The close had Alicia standing by David, and her name was mentioned in the close.

They must be going back to the drawing board to rethink the show formats. Traditionally for them, the noon news was predominately a hard news show and when they expanded it to an hour, they had the lighter stuff towards the back end of the second half hour. When the 4PM launched, it was faster paced with the news and features were dispersed through out. The 5PM has always been longer form hard news.

With Alicia possibly joining the noon (perhaps only for the 2nd half hour) maybe they want the noon show to become like (or replace) the 4PM and have the 4PM become a harder news show to compete with 10 at 4. As of right now, 10's the only station in that timeslot doing a full hard news hour. 3's doing a complete fluff show (hell they sit on damn couch) and 6 is trying to do both and perhaps they want to get away from that.

These changes must be permanent. Sarah was mentioned in the 4pm Close even though Alicia was doing the feature stories today. They also referred to Jeanette as an anchor when they tossed to her for a story during the 5pm.

Must say I’m not a fan of the changes and feel like they came out of nowhere (usually they test pairs on air).

Rick and Sharrie have little chemistry. There’s really no room on the 5pm show for soft feature stories that Alicia now does. Jeanette jumped from reporter to 4pm anchor. Christie was the main reporter subbing as an anchor and she got nothing (so far). Sarah was subbing at 5pm since May and all she get’s is the 4pm feature role, definitely a slap in the face. And they need to get Walter a full time co-anchor.

I'm afraid I agree.

The only change-up that (could've) worked was upgrading Sarah to 5pm anchor - and nothing else. They have everything else right with everyone else in the same place (and have been for years). And a new co-anchor for Walter would've been their only other conundrum they would've sorted out immediately. If official (which we still haven't had a word from the station yet), it's gonna take a while to settle with this line-up.

I agree, no chemistry between Rick and Sharrie, most of the changes seem to come out of nowhere, change for the sake of change. Sarah should be on at 5 with Rick, it was a solid newscast.

This reminds me of the debacle when they tried to change the theme music.

Not that surprised. Christie Ileto is expecting. While for obvious reasons 6abc would never say that was a reason, for the sake of establishing a new line up, I can see why a news director wouldn't want one of the key pieces to be someone who will be out for 3+ months during the critical early stages of this new line up.

This is the way It did look: (Before Monica left in May)

Noon: Rick Williams and Sarah Bloomquist
4 pm: Brian Taff, Shari Williams; Alicia Viterelli features anchor
5 pm: Rick Williams, (Monica Malpass)
10 pm PHL17: Brian Taff, Shari Williams

November Anchor line up:  The one on top was the anchor line up before May..

Quote

And this seems to be the lineup the station is going with now:

Noon: Sarah Bloomquist and Brian Taff
4 pm: Brian Taff and Jeanette Reyes; Sarah Bloomquist features anchor
5 pm: Rick Williams and Shari Williams; Alicia Viterelli features anchor
10 pm on PHL17: Rich Williams and Shari Williams

Source: FTV Live.

Make your own assumptions to what happens during this version of the November sweeps and what additional changes need to be made..

I do miss Sarah, I do not see the mix with Rick Williams and Shari Williams.  I always liked Action News because you usually knew who you would be seeing behind the anchor desk.  The other 2 channels change a lot.

I can't help but to think this all might have something to do with Jim Gardner's eventual retirement.

Somebody mentioned on another site that these moves are odd for a brand that’s built on stability. I wonder if Jim is thinking about cutting back his workload and maybe dropping the 11 had anything to do with the drastic changes. When Shirleen left, they tested many pairs before deciding on Sharrie, although I believe she was the most frequent.

Interestingly, Sarah was on today, Friday, at noon. So maybe that means she is back to a M-F schedule and someone else will be sitting next to Walter Sunday night. They mentioned Jeanette in the close, but not Alicia (who was not on today). Could she be the Sunday night anchor? We shall see, stay tuned ...

The 5pm had open with an intro today and featured Cecily, Jamie, Alicia, Sharrie, and Rick. Nothing at 5:30pm though. Not sure about the 4:30pm.

Is CVD still doing the opens?  They’re easing off on using him it seems.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they just give him only the opens like they were doing with Jeff Kaye towards the end.

Yeah and he's definitely lost his fastball. It's not Jeff Kaye's last opens bad but it ain't too far off. They would best be served finding someone else next time they need opens. (I vote for Paul Turner or Bill Ratner.)

The new noon, 4p, and 5p teams are being promoted in banners on 6abc’s website

Well, I guess that's official. Time now to settle in. And the successors/replacements are very good at what they do, so I won't fret for very long.

Turner's dramatic, exaggerated style of announcing wouldn't be a great fit for PVI, IMO. Ratner would be a much better choice.

Paul and Bill actually were promo voices for WPVI in the late 90s and 2000s before Charlie took over. Paul is also local based here in the suburbs so his voice wouldn't be foreign to the station and its viewers at all.

Ratner's in his 70's, and is starting to decline a bit. I can't imagine that he'd be a viable long-term option, unless they'd want to do this all over again in a couple years.

It does feel like the pool of V/O artists skews pretty old, honestly. Like there is no one to take the reins from the mainstays as they decline or leave the profession.

I've noticed the "Tonight on 6ABC promos" and similar have had female VOs... Was almost expecting (at least some) of the Fall opens to possibly go that direction. (I would think they would leave the 6 and 11 untouched for now...)
