WWL has ratings “momentum” from 7 to 9? Ha! Have you actually looked at the numbers lately? They’re a solid third at 7 and at 8. The two-hour newscast they slid over to WUPL was first (or occasionally a close second) when it was on WWL and is now fourth.

Also ... why are all your posts boldfaced?!?

WWL/Tegna didn't have much of a choice on keeping local news 7-9am. Even before the changes WWL was losing viewers in the morning.

Come on guys...

It's only a TV show...it has NO FEELINGS.

Kelly and Regis will get over being "dissed" after a few days.

You mean Ryan. And also, cut down on the boldface, dude.

You'll have to forgive Eat News.  He and Regis have a bit of a history with each other.

Every since the vicious taunting, Eat News sees Regis everywhere and this causes him to boldly address TVNT posters' wild misconceptions regarding ratings versus billings.

Semi-related, but Digital First Media (formerly MediaNews Group) has made a hostile takeover bid for the "new" Gannett (owner of USA TODAY and local newspapers).

Could this mean that TEGNA changes its name back to Gannett?

I'd love to see the Deathstar make a comeback, too. That's something Gannett took away nearly 8 years ago.

I think that "bid" has been rejected by Gannett themselves.

WKYC had Duji from the "Rover's Morning Glory" morning show on WMMS-FM fill-in at the anchor desk this morning, and she even gave a weather report as well.

Their new news director "director of content" seems to want to make his impression on WKYC....and it isn't a good one. He's trying to turn their morning show into something like the Today show, but without the actual personalities who can pull this off. (Though arguably, Robin Swoboda could easily be the Kathie Lee Gifford in this scenario.)  They're pulling a Fox 8 by making the news all about the personalities (Hollie Strano's "deeply personal story", an official dog "mascot," putting chocolate syrup on cereal)  - but to me, it is just falling flat.  (If you notice, their director of content rarely tweets actual news...it's an endless stream of love for Kathie Lee and Hoda...)

These days are long behind us...

Semi-related, but don't you agree that Gannett/TEGNA has gone downhill lately? How are they right now in comparison to Sinclair, Nexstar, and Gray? Could TEGNA go away like RKO General did?

Someone on another thread said that Gannett wasn't better at one point than TEGNA is now and that TEGNA is now trying to continue to be profitable and stay afloat. Really? TEGNA may be trying, but they (at least to me) seem to be trying too hard to cater to a new audience. They are a company that seems to be trying to cater to Wall Street, which usually isn't a good thing. Usually, publicly traded companies that don't try to cater to Wall Street are better at delivering products and services than those that do cater to Wall Street. Some TEGNA employees don't even like the company's current business practices. And you should look at all the well-known talent that has left their stations, replaced by younger, cheaper people. It is clear to me that TEGNA certainly isn't as great as Gannett once was. It is sad when you go from being one of the better station groups, to a company that thinking too hard about catering to millennials. And certain TEGNA stations, of course, have more "trending" stories, that really are not news, than competitors. Considering Scripps has gone downhill over the last several years, even Scripps stations have less "trending" stories.

Everyone, stop whining about Tegna. There is much worse that exists out there and there are people who would kill for Tegna to enter their market.

I live in the Boston market and would do anything to get them to make WFXT watchable again. But no, instead of an actual broadcaster they're going to be ruined further by being dragged down by the dregs known as Northwest.

Eh. The only reason why TEGNA along with Scripps have gone downhill is because they're too focused on trying to solve the issue of "how do we take our traditional newscasts and make them appeal to younger viewers".

What Nextstar and Gray realize is that by making "subtle" changes, they can appeal to both the traditional and youth markets, TEGNA and Scripps don't really grasp the situation they're in.

I'd go even further that all TV station groups (even the O&Os) will go downhill to the point where there is no recovery. Internet has replaced TV as the go to source for news unfortunately and there's no way of stopping it.

The difference between TEGNA and RKO General was that RKO's stations were not really strong (WOR-TV and KHJ-TV were the third-ranked independents in New York and Los Angeles, respectively. KHJ could have been fourth behind KCOP). Maybe the years they were operating with the FTC and FCC as thorns on their side could have been why they never could be competitive.  The Gannett group had some top-ranked stations at one time.

So...is this a record for TEGNAization with WTOL's morning show crew, even without the Newzatonix chanters and graphics? 'Enjoy' this painful 53 seconds of 'how do you do, fellow kids?' where Gray HQ is like 'yup, we made the right call in keeping WTVG'. 🙃

Same with WPMT.

[cries in WPMT]

The Tribune Fox affiliates not going to Tegna seem to be in the same boat, KCPQ aside. The ads KSWB ran on XETV when XETV shut down English operations seemed to have that same sort of vibe.

Back to WTIC: I wonder if Tegna does a rebrand. I know their graphic announcing the sale used the old FOXCT Logo and that rebrand fell flat on their faces. Do you keep 61? Go back to FOXCT? Go to Fox 6 and see if Meredith (and Citadel and to some degree Sinclair) complain?

These folks do not deserve all the hate they're receiving.  This is not an actual newscast, but instead a video made for the school district - to help with a social media campaign "encouraging students to do well on their tests."   It's no different than some of the 'funny' promos created to promote newscasts.  It isn't abnormal for a local news station (or its personalities) to attempt humor.  Look at the quasi-journalists on the air past and present....Robin Swoboda, Bob Herzog, Kristen Hampton.  They all have a "schtick" that isn't for everyone - but they stay employed (or keep getting new jobs) because...on some level, it resonates with the target demo.

I feel badly for these folks - but judging from how Melissa Andrews engages with folks on social media...she won't be taking the s***.

I'm not saying I hate it; kids aren't the primary audience for morning newscasts by any means (before school live TV and kids are a buried-and-dead audience when Snapchat and Instagram exist, no matter what Sinclair and the kids cable networks think). But the use of Internet slang by adults who you associate with being completely sober talking about a house fire up in Maumee is just plain jarring. And television stations have good cooperative relationships with local school districts (see WITI's decades-long segment with Milwaukee Public School students who get to read the lunch menu and any 'weatherman comes to your school' initiative). But if this was the Toledo schools coming in and specifically asking for this kind of encouragement...it was a swing and a miss by that district.

If WFAA does this, Marty Haag really will spin in his grave.
