Sad news in Chicago Television. The original "Svengoolie" Jerry G. Bishop, passed away Sunday at the age of 77.

Feder posted late last night. Bishop started his career as a disc jockey at a Evanston radio station in the 1960s. He would later do disc jockey work in several other cities until settling in as a DJ on WMAQ & WCFL radio in Chicago.

He was later hired as a staff announcer of WFLD Channel 32 in 1969, where he was the voice of the station's horror movie block "Screaming Yellow Theater". Eventually, he would later form into some wacky character named "Svengoolie".

The current Svengoolie, Rick Koz stated in a tweet to Feder last night that “He was an incredibly talented, generous man, I owe him everything.”

May he rest in peace.
