2 Mexican stations beating KNBC. Wow, they do stink.

Actually you are wrong. Univision is Mexican. KVEA is a Telemundo O&O which in other words is a NBC O&O. And Telemundo is not mexican.

Neither local station is based in Mexico either. I've watched tidbits of them a few times before. The only real difference between them and the English news stations is the language (Spanish), the channel position (not 1-11), and the types of stories frequently covered. For example, they'll run the mayor's speeches, but when he does a version in Spanish (as he frequently does), they'll play clips from that rather than having a VO with translation.

I'm not surprised at all that KNBC lost to a Spanish-language station, even with the mother network's poor performance, as this isn't the first time that it has happened. Spanish language stations have been up there with their English-language counterparts for many sweeps periods.

If KNBC wants to do better, for one, they should consider hiring a new promo writer. The station's promos are not nearly as good as KABC. This new ad campaign that they're running on the buses isn't strong enough either.

Also, let's not forget that the majority of the Los Angeles area is of Hispanic and Latino descent (about 55% now), so understandly, KMEX's and KVEA's numbers would be comparable to their English-language counterparts. And really, NBC doesn't lose much because they own two of the five full-time Spanish broacasters in the market--KVEA and KWHY.
