Memphis Stations Prepare New Facility

Recommended Posts

Months of hard work and planning are about to pay off for three of Nexstar's Tennessee stations. In the coming days, WPTY and WLMT in Memphis and WJKT in Jackson will move into new state of the art facilities and debut a complete overhaul of their on-air looks - up to and including call letters. WPTY will change it's calls to WATN and rebrand as "Local 24", with all three stations debuting a new graphics package and a rehabbed FX Group set acquired from Little Rock, Arkansas' KLRT when that station merged with KARK late last year.

The move also brings about a interesting technical change: a move away from automation. TVNewsCheck.com reports that, while the station's current facility uses a Ross Overdrive automation system, the new facility will utilize a more traditional control room with a technical director, producer, graphics operator, prompter operator, and audio operator.

that localmemphis.com url has been registered since 1999. i hardly think they were thinking that far in advance.

The new look's already been leaked on Vimeo. It's the Hothaus WKRC package.

Good find, but the relaunch already happened this past Saturday so not really a leak at this point ;-)

For those unaware and want to watch the debut newscast, it's available here thanks to member trevorbirchett

LOL... that's what I get for losing track of the date. For some reason I thought it was still late May!
