It's the 'On Your Side'-era graphics and the new O&O set. That's nothing super crazy, but note that the beginning of the clip includes a few bars of 'The Tar Sequence', which means they went back to the classic theme for a few months, before adopting 'News Series 2000'. I don't know if the new theme wasn't ready or they hadn't yet decided a long-term option (returning to the old to try and recapture some old glory). That cue in the beginning is News Series 2000. It's not always for me, but I like and respect what they're trying to do with the show, but even I am really distracted by how the set pieces are cheapening the whole vibe of show. At least a coat of paint, or something. They redid the kitchen a couple of years ago, and looks so much more modern and upscale, but it only accentuates the tattered carpet, and the shiny golds that are turning to a drab peach color. From Feder: David Lee has been named vice president of audience development and creative services at ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7. He most recently held the same position at KTRK, the ABC station in Houston. He succeeds Curtis Miles, who left in July to become general manager of WAOW, the ABC affiliate in Wausau, Wisconsin. Lee, a native of Great Falls, Montana, and graduate of Montana State University, previously worked in Fresno, California, and Spokane, Washington. “David’s creative instincts combined with his expertise mining the digital space make him the ideal person to lead our station’s talented creative services department,” John Idler, president and general manager of ABC 7, said in a statement. Janet Davies and Larry Mowry will take the reins from Alan Krashesky, and while he will be honored by the station/parade for this, his 50th go-around, Joel Daly will not be on the call (I mean, he is 83). The first episode went up more than a week ago, and they're not yet promoting it, so I'd say it's still in soft-launch mode. The thumbnail/icon likely gives another tease at the new graphics I've been speculating about for more than a year. I listened to the first episode, and while it's not the most technical discussion (which is probably a good thing), the meteorologists are able to dive into stuff that doesn't fit into the 1-3 minute windows they have on the newscasts. The package is ultimately inoffensive, and I wish they would've done something with the scoreboard, but I figured that that was unlikely.
