That’s almost as good as an all Dave (Solo anchor/weather/sports) newscast on WXYZ a few years ago on a Saturday night...

New morning show promo with a very different look debuted tonight. They've departed from the standard graphics for the morning news before ("7 in the Morning," anyone?), but this one is definitely out there. I REALLY don't like this voiceover. She does work for the west coast O&O's, and that style just doesn't click east of the Mississippi.

Yeah... no. The promo itself is fine, but creative services should get Ratner to re-dub that VO.

A rare step back in the promo dept. for them. I don't like any of it (graphics look cheap, v/o is terrible, the music...blah). The overall tone is off.

Since we're talking about it, might as well bring up some other changes. In the last week, the translucent logo during network programming has changed to a grayscale version of the updated logo, the call letter ID dropped the blue box to be just text last night (though it's back to normal today), and the new logo has also made its way onto the network promos.

Those are generally minor, but this next one has me wondering. One of the station's graphic artists has posted some promos and stuff on Vimeo in recent months, reflecting the current on-air look, but a few weeks ago, he dropped these out there. Yes, the typical thinking says that if he's posting, that it's been rejected, though I find it interesting how it builds off the current look. The fact that it doesn't maintain Helvetica in some form also makes me doubt its future, as all signs point to the station using it in the future. It also features a previously-unheard of branding. It could be an upcoming segment, or its own program. I dropped him a line, but no word back, though I'm not surprised.

Damn, they're busy today. The new logo has debuted on the time/temp bug. The blue is still a little see-through, and the all-gray ABC has replaced the blue. Everything else, including the opens, remains the same.

So I just watched the 10pm live stream and the majority of the filler promos had the updated logo bug in them along with chunkier, nearly solid-white 7 in some of the larger logo animations. If they were prepping for a completely new look they probably wouldn't have done that.

They changed the news bug in the summer of 2013, updated with an updated 7 and the then-new ABC logo. That lasted for just a few months before they blew everything up with the reintroduction of Eyewitness News. I wouldn't be stunned if this is all temporary. They LOVE to roll stuff out incrementally.

The dam is breaking open. The mapping software isn't new (adopted after the flagships), but that branded graphic sure is. The Helvetica style remains, but not much of a clue beyond the color scheme and the flat look. It's big like WABC, that goofy "YM" is similiar to KABC, but the look overall might not fall on either side.

That is a fantastically terrible name and the graphic isn't much better...

Despite her mention in Feder's article, all signs point to them ignoring Lauren Cohn's tenure, as none if the promos uploaded to their promotions account featured her time with Hosea (or more rare, with Alan). That said, she was in-studio on Hosea's last day, so I guess anything is possible. She's the afternoon news anchor on WLS-AM.

Okay, long post.

  1. Sure enough, the morning show pretty much blacked out the latter half of the 90's, though mainly because today was a tribute to Roz's 30th anniversary, alongside the program. Rahm Emanuel dedicated the day to her, the Chicago Theatre put her name on the marquee, her mother, husband & daughter surprised her, and Alan Krashesky was in-studio to present her with her Disney-issued 30-year award. https://abc7chicago.com/society/celebrating-30-years-of-abc7s-morning-show/5230765/
  2. Mentioned on Windy City Live, Hosea Sanders' cancer is now in remission.

It looks good but I am curious where this is supposed to go? If you post it to Twitter or as an Instagram post it would be fine, but for Instagram stories where a lot of content goes the size wouldn’t fit.
