The Definitive ABC 7 Thread

Let the speculation begin as to her replacement. My guess is Cheryl will pick up 6 & 10, with Judy taking the 7 from Cheryl, and Tanja taking the 11am from Judy.

After enough upheaval with Ron and Linda's retirements (haha, one is a semi-regular WCL guest host and the other has a weekly online video show), I doubt they'll rearrange too much. I bet they'll just go with the current back-up structure for when Kathy's off; Cheryl gets the 10, Judy at 6, and 11 could go either way, Judy or Tanja.

I agree with this. Having Alan & Cheryl @ 5,6 & 10 would be best and put them in line with WMAQ and WBBM (not that this matters) in terms of having the same pair on during those time periods. Really no need to give the 6 to Judy.

WTH?

I can't believe this, because she still has several good years left and those folks at WLS make good money. I can't believe she's leaving. Another television icon leaves.

Here hoping she not going on WBBM/CBS 2 they seem to get all of WLS' castaways. Job well done Kathy Brock!

You’re a bit late.

That awkward moment when you put together some updated promos that will now have to be taken off the air in just a month because the anchor dropped a bomb on everyone.

Those can easily be updated...

The simple succession plan is confirmed. Cheryl will anchor at 5, 7, and 10, Judy will add the 6 to the 4, and Tanja will join Terrell at 11.

That makes sense.

I always wonder what was the reason for Cheryl to be the “contributing 10 pm anchor.” Like what exactly did she do. Did she just read a story and that it

A newscast with 3 white men replacing the one minority anchor with a white woman could've ruffled some feathers. Chicago is one of the markets where that's a thing.

Isn’t that when Diann Burns left for Channel 2 and was replaced with Kathy! I can see why they did that but it seems like Cheryl didn’t have a clear definitive role and was just a feature reporter whose in the opening credits!

Fired/not renewed, but yes. End of February sweeps, '03. It wasn't really the most solid arrangement, but it had a little more meaning back then. Their last upstairs set was able to accommodate all 5 anchors at the end of the show, and they closed that way on most nights.

I loved that desk.

At the time, that set felt fancy compared to the set they came from before that.

The tweaks they made to the "white" set when they dropped Eyewitness News for ABC 7 really cheapened it.
