"Good Day LA" shakeup

Deadline.com reports (and a spokesperson for Fox O&O KTTV has confirmed) that Dorothy Lucey will be leaving KTTV's Good Day LA after Friday morning's broadcast as her contract was not renewed. Co-anchor Jillian Reynolds will be moved to freelance status at KTTV, continuing in her current duties on Good Day LA but not always appearing five days a week. Steve Edwards is the only Good Day LA anchor that has been with the show since its 1995 revamp (it debuted in 1993) that will remain full-time as he is locked into a long-term contract.

The show will reportdly hold on-air tryouts for Lucey’s position similar to what has been done on syndicated morning show Live With Kelly since Regis Philbin's departure in November 2011. The reasons for the shakeup, a cost-saving measure (as Lucey earned a hefty paycheck), and as a way to "provid[e] a jolt" to the show, which has lost ground in the ratings.

They both had a pretty good run (17 years), so it's no surprise that this shakeup happened. I wonder if Steve would have been shown the door too had his contract been up?
