She may have left on her own.

Betty was demoted from the primary 7-11am slot when they hired Hazel Sanchez from WCBS. My recollection is she was moved to the early morning newscast with John Muller, but she only anchored for a few weeks until leaving.

That was the confusing part for me. Hazel Sanchez (to my recollection) was always a reporter and never in an anchor much less light banter personality role. What made them see Hazel specifically and think to swap her for Betty in the critical AM slot? Not a knock on her, just curious.

Do you all think the WPIX Morning News has improved in the post Sukanya era? Personally I think the show was at it's best when John Muller was anchor along with Lynn White and later Suki. Outside of Frances Rivera, I don't think any of Suki's later pairings clicked. The team of Jill Nicolini, Larry Hoff, Linda Church etc, were all great additions. At least 11's trying to get back to that team atmosphere now. Overall, I'll give PIX a slight edge, but them and Good Day New York aren't particularly strong right now.

Yeah we don't know the whole truth with Betty Nguyen but it seems they pushed her out when they hired Hazel; since she did stay on the 4:30-7am slot for a few weeks. I think Hazel's trying in her new role but don't know why they had high confidence in her to do light/fluff news based on her hard news background... If anything I'd suggest putting Tamsen back on mornings and have Hazel anchor with Kori on nights (then again I just don't care for Tamsen's anchoring style)... but in favor of consistency I suppose its fine the way things are now. By far the strongest pairing I've seen on nights is Kori and reporter Shirley Chan.

In terms of the mornings, I think the new set will help to push the team atmosphere a bit more, and I think they have several strong personalities (namely Dan, Craig, Marysol, Chris, Alex, Ben, Oji) and they just have to find the best way to use them. The old WB11 format worked really well with Linda, Lisa, Jill, Larry etc and I think they just need to adapt that to todays era.

Simple takeway: PIX 11 has been pushing potential since moving away from its funky Jodi Applegate era, but just need to apply themselves.

This is my cue to pop in and say I adored the Jodi Appelgate experiment, and I'd stream it almost every night in Philly. Bring back "The Day In PIX"!

If Jodi hadn’t replaced a successful duo, she might’ve gotten better ratings; the unceremonious dumping of Jim and Kaity was why I haven’t really watched PIX since. Looking back, I probably would’ve been welcoming of the changes if they had been implemented at 6:30pm (or another time slot) instead of 10pm.

Yeah it was definitely not as much the adding of Jodi as anchor; but rather the forced demotion of Jim and Kaity, who many would argue was one of, if not the best long running anchor teams in NYC in terms of chemistry, skill, and trust (next to Chuck and Sue).

Yeah I have to add to that, but Jodi Applegate could’ve holded a 6pm show. Kaity and Jim would still be here if that stupid Bill Carrey move didn’t happened.

Jodi Applegate was a capable talent who would've worked on another timeslot, not at the expense of Jim & Kaity. She could've been a great successor to Suki on Morning News.

WPIX could have tried new formatting without dismantling it's set and placing the newscast in their cheap looking newsroom. The poor mobile immitation graphics made things worse. They should have at least remodeled the newsroom to make it broadcast friendly, something of a CityPulse news look.

SB: Why does Jodi bounce around networks so frequently? She's a stong enough talent to put down roots at a station.

I think a question that pairs well is does she even work for any network, or a station? Or does she work on TV at all? Haven't heard or seen her name in years. Maybe because I stream-only too much. But still.

Update: I knew on Wikipedia it states that she did infomercials for Westmore Beauty Body Coverage in May 2020. But right after I made the original post, I researched and saw that she's at Clarity Media Group working as a Communications Specialist since June 2013. But if anyone knows if she made any other appearances after her "Live From the Couch" WLNY days, let me know.

As per his Instagram, Chris Cimino is moving to 4p and 6p weekdays. Mr. G will remain at 5p and 10p.

Why not just have Chris anchor 4 & 5 and Mr G 6, 6:30 and 10? I know they usually mix-and-match timeslots for anchors but meteorologist is unusual.

Who anchors NY Living Now? These days you don't really have time to get used to talent arrangements as things switch up so rapidly.

The other day when Star Harvey posted the new set she said something along the lines of other changes coming that she “couldn’t talk about yet” I wonder if she moves to weekday mornings or does at least part of the week?

Hmm this is interesting news.. makes me wonder if Mr. G requested less hours or just a simple management decision... I could see a situation in which Star Harvey or Alex Lee replaces him on NY Living.

They could also just have Byron do the entire 4-10am hour; so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I could definitely see Chris as an eventual successor to Mr. G (probably more so than Byron). He's definitely well known and respected in the NY market from his long time at TINY.

On another note, I'll now guess with 60% confidence the studio debuts next Monday lol.

Did WPIX pick up the Yankee games? On their website about page says “In addition, PIX11 is the first New York over-the-air station to carry both the Mets and Yankees at the same time in their history. PIX11 has been the broadcast home of the New York Mets since 1999, and broadcast home of the Yankees since 2015.”

That has to be outdated; if they did, they would be the “broadcast home of the Yankees since 2023,” since PIX hasn’t carried them for some time.

Definitely outdated.  Checking the schedule, most games are on YES, some again on Amazon Prime (which replaced over the air games in 2022).  None mentioned for WPIX or any other over the air outlet.  Evidently YES will introduce DTC streaming this year as well.
