WPIX starting one hour sports program starting 11PM Sunday - WPIX Sports Nation

I noticed the promo this past weekend.  I suspect Nexstar is going to be pushing the Nation and News Nation branding on their stations going forward hoping (wrongly) it will get a few people to even notice NewsNation.   Is NewsNation NY in the future?

A bureau? Yes. A local program or subchannel called NewsNation Local? Probably at some point, yes.

I’m actually surprised Nexstar doesn’t have a nightly program across the state, now that they have an affiliate in every market. Empire State Weekly (from WTEN) airs on the weekends across NY.

A 5:30 show called Empire State Tonight would seem logical on all NY Nexstar stations.

New York is too different from region to region for one statewide newscast to find traction. Upstate people hate downstate people; the (NYC) northern suburbs don’t care about anything or anyone other than Metro North; Long Islanders are too busy being stuck in traffic; and everyone hates Staten Island.

I think the solution for WPIX is to move out of Midtown East, and move to Queens. Then, build a newscast and image that is New York City, other than Manhattan. Forget Manhattan news. Concentrate on the other four boroughs and their 7,000,000 residents.

It’s harder to do, and requires some real outside the box work. But it would give New York something it doesn’t have: a newscast that resembles and reflects New York.

I can see something like this happening with News 12.. they seem to be trying to “up” their image and they have already launched News12 New York online..

seems like they’re lighter stories right now but they’re pulled from each News12 station.. it’s kind of interesting to wonder if it’ll develop more and make it to tv.

I like that outer borough centric approach. But instead of Queens, I'd say move to Brooklyn which seems to be the second epicenter of the city now.

The older WPIX had a more urban appeal maybe they can bring that vibe back. ( Fox 5 sort of has that going for them with Lisa Evers and Street soldiers). Perhaps they could attempt a WSVN tabloid hard-boiled type newscast to set themselves apart from the other stations. Was always curious how that approach might work in New York.

I just saw a preview of the WPIX mayor candidate forum. Was this shot in an old 70's porn set? This is the #1 Market type production? Hey Nexstar throw a couple of bucks for an alternate set - even a pair of drapes will do.

I am currently watching the show and I realize that my previous comments were really petty. All involved did a great job. Very informative - it just looked low budget - but I rather this than flash and fluff

I don't think it was too bad looking.

Dan Mannarino is launching a new political show on PIX 11 called "PIX on Politics".

The show will begin on Sunday, June 20.

Nexstar is certainly diving head first into making their own Sunday political shows, as evident by this statewide show launched last fall in California.

Yawn. I guess they need something cheap to fill up the schedule with and this is it....🤷‍♂️

Narmeen Choudry has left PIX11. She posted her goodbye on Facebook but didn’t go into detail as to why she left. All she said was she felt she had no other choice but to walk away.

It doesn’t sound like the best of splits.

I figured that she was gone.  She had not been on the air in a few weeks.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if this has something to do with her departure.

Pretty pathetic of her to do that if it's true. Stuff like that could easily ruin someone's career (if not their life)

Good riddance (if thats true)

Why are you taking the cameraman's side and calling her pathetic? He claims the allegations to be false, but as the article suggests, it wasn't just Narmeen reporting his inappropriate behavior, it was multiple staffers.
