WABC - 7 Eyewitness News

I know this has been said before but I wish Michelle would get more time filling in on the weekdays.. Last week they had Rob Nelson on at 5 for a few days and Sandra Bookman on at 4 most of the week. Personally, while I know it wont happen I would like to see Rob and Michelle get the 4:00 show at some point. Rob was great at 5 as is Joe Torres, the rotation should be between Michelle, Rob and Joe until Diana gets back. They can use them else where as well because Liz is likely out the rest of the week and I'm sure the others will be on vacation at some point.

It's kind of dumb, to be honest. They're not even saying the ."com" part. They stopped doing that when referring to 7online but it was fine then because the name 7online already refers to an online source. Now the anchors and even the voiceover on promos says "watch it on abc7ny" or "tonight's live lotto drawing tonight only on abc7ny" .... they realize this sounds like they are referring to the TV station and no longer promoting the website, right?

Also, the website bar under the logo stopped rotating and now just says "abc7ny" .. no hashtag, .com or anything...

The verbal references without no web tag are silly, but even though 7online was more than okay, I'd imagine the abc7NY moniker came from network.

The bar going stagnant is good news, though. That said, having the abc7NY displayed in a combo of wide Helvetica and ABC Modern (glorified Futura) still looks awful.

I doubt it. The rest of the group Twitter handles differ from the website except for KABC, KFSN, WABC, & WPVI.

KABC: abc7.com/ @abc7

KFSN: abc30.com/ @abc30

KGO: abc7news.com/ @abc7newsbayarea (@abc7news was taken by WJLA)

KTRK: abc13.com/ @abc13houston (@abc13 was taken by WSET)

WABC: abc7ny.com/ abc7ny

WLS: abc7chicago.com/ @abc7chicago

WPVI: 6abc.com/ @6abc

WTVD: abc11.com/ abc11_wtvd (@abc11 was taken by a person)

I think you have that backwards... KGO, KTRK and WTVD differ from the website and only because it was taken by someone else first. Everything else on your list uses the same handle for website and twitter. It looks like the corporate mandate is to brand website and social media the same whenever possible. You forgot to list WLS as one of the ones that has the same handle for both as well.

All the anchors are saying log on to abc7ny.com

Not even. They're just saying "...you can find it on ABC7NY" or some other variation. It sounds quite stupid, really. Makes you wonder who it was that thought it would be a good idea. At least 7online had the word "online" in it. At least say "You can find it at ABC7NY online" or something like that.

Here's more information about Lori's father and his illness.

As for Diana, seems like she will be out for the foreseeable future. She is living in an Maryland apartment provided to her and her husband by Walter Reed Medical Center which arranges housing for caregivers of wounded warriors.

She definitely will be out for sometime to come. Prayers for her entire family as they have definetly be tested these past few months. Prayers for the Stokes family as well.

It's insane that WABC is marketing "ABC7NY" as the name of the website, without the ".com". It makes absolutely no sense, as it seems to just be the station itself. "7online" is clearly a web entity. At the end of an article about Joe Torres traveling to the Vatican, it says he's going to provide continuous updates to "ABC7NY." Here lies the issue- there is no designation between the television coverage and the entity of the website. You don't see WCBS saying "go to CBSNewYork" instead of "CBSNewYork.com" or WNBC saying go to "NBCNewYork." 7online worked just as the Fox "mycity" format works. Huge mistake to not have it marketed as ABC7NY.com

It might alleviate it done if they said "here on channel 7 and also on abc7ny"... But even then it really needs the .com... The limitations of using abc7 or whatever network letters as a channel brand are being demonstrated right about now.

Not to mention the fact that the average viewer calls them Channel 7 .. Not ABC7. They tried ABC7 Eyewitness News back in 1999 and switched back to Channel 7 a few years later after realizing ABC7 was not catching on.

Now to refer to their web/social media presence as just ABC7NY is confusing for not only the average viewer. It even to those who know the ins and outs of TV news. They had a great brand in the 7online name. They should've just tried to make their social media names 7online to keep everything consistent and familiar.

Which do they use more on air? ABC7 or Channel 7?
