New M&A Tonight. CNZ is buying another station.

They're getting Granite Broadcasting's KOFY-TV through its Stryker Media subsidiary for $6M.

KOFY has channel-share agreement with CNZ-owned Class-A station KCNZ-CD.

And almost eleven months after it was announced, the KOFY deal is finally done. It was closed earlier today (10/15).

Granite is only left with Syracuse's WTVH.

New M&A from Quincy.

They've announced this morning that they're acquiring the Harrisburg, IL ABC affiliate, WSIL from Mel Wheeler.

WSIL serves the Paducah, KY, Cape Girardeau, MO, Carbondale, IL market. The term of the deal weren't disclosed.

This comes after they'd announced that they're getting KVOA from Cordillera back on Monday.

Looks like Mel Wheeler is out of the TV business...all that's left is a group of Radio stations in Roanoke, VA.

IIRC, they were the co-founders of WEAR in Pensacola and the second owner of WJDM Channel 7 in Panama City....before selling to James Harrison Gray, as WJHG.

That leaves WPSD as the independent in the market. I'm guessing Gray had interest before the Raycom deal, but Quincy works very well.

Surprised this paperwork was posted first before the Cordillera ones.

They're also asking for continued satellite authority of its Poplar Bluff repeater, KPOB.

Purchase Price: $24.5M.

Liberman Broadcasting, owners of the Spanish TV network Estrella TV, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yesterday (11/21).

Not surprised. When you go up against Spanish networks like Telemundo and Univision (whom is having it's own problems up against Telemundo), then you don't have much of a chance to compete. Look at what happened to MundoFOX and that ABC venture whose name escapes me.

Some New M&As.

NBC is acquiring Telemundo affiliates in Sacramento & Salt Lake City, owned by Serestar Communications  for $21M.

Also, Scripps is buying independent station WHDT in Stuart, FL, from Gunter Marksteiner, for $25M.

It already owns the NBC station WPTV and operates the Raycom-owned Fox outlet WFLX.

No telling what they'll be using the new channel for, once the deal is done.

I forgot to mention. Serestar also operates the NBC-owned Telemundo outlet KNSO. That LMA will be terminated in the early part of the new year, so NBC will gain full control for that outlet.

Quincy was granted the greenlight of the WSIL deal yesterday.

Cordillera wasn't greenlighted though yet?

The KVOA deal to Quincy hasn't been greenlighted yet.

And the big Scripps deal hasn't been greenlighted.

Given that big $520M price tag, they'll probably have to wait for the DOJ to give them an "early termination", before they get the greenlight from the FCC.

Wait, what? Quincy is not getting KVOA after all? That opens the door.

I mean't that deal is still pending. It hasn't been approved yet.

They wrote the paperwork a couple of months ago. It takes time to get approval.

Unbelievably, NBC still owned an analog television station in 2018.

When they acquired ZGS, they also acquired the analog LPTV it had in El Paso, KTDO-LP. The functional purpose of this station ostensibly was to provide Ciudad Juárez analog viewers with coverage, yet it remained on air until recently.

On November 30, NBC told the FCC to cancel the license for the LPTV. (Repack probably also was determinative in ending this facility.)
