I don’t know that I agree with this. Maybe you’re not from New York? But that’s a day that literally happened in our own backyard. It was a day that almost everyone.. if not everyone.. was affected and likely knew someone that died. Do I think the reading of the names will continue forever? No. But as long as it does I do feel the local NY stations will carry it. It’s not like it used to be before the 10 year where there was coverage from early morning to late night with replays of the day of the event, but I don’t think it’ll just stop cold on the main channels.

True but I wouldn't cover the whole ceremony, maybe cut it in for every ceremonial bell. But I think the reading of the names is insane and lost of ad revenue.

It says the 10am show debuts Sept. 11 but I wonder what that means for WABC’s 9/11 memorial coverage. That usually does not conclude until noonish.

Normally yeah it ends at noon, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do coverage. We're in the streaming days it doesn't have to be broadcast anymore they read the names every year and they've done that since the 1st anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if they decide ehh we need the revenue, stream it online. It's like if we had TV during Pearl Harbor the Hawaii stations would do coverage for every anniversary for 20 years but then the next generation comes that won't even care unless they learn it in school and most of the families by now who lost loves one's in Pearl Harbor will themselves be old or dying and their descendants won't even care too much because they weren't alive and it was a long time ago. But again every 9/11 anniversary is almost the same why do they need to do coverage every year? It's been 21 years almost 22, I can understand a milestone anniversary like the 20th or the 25th but the next generation will learn it in school or online and descendants of 9/11 victims are not going to have a severe emotional connection it's been long ago that children who lost there fathers now have kids of there own and those kids unless there parents always bring up there grandparents are not gonna care. And kids who dont have relatives who were unalived on 9/11 they're not gonna pay attention and listen to every name of every person that died. The World Trade Center, Washington’s Pentagon, and Shanksville Somerset County, PA killed 2,977 people, that's 2,977 names the future generation isn't gonna want to listen to those names for 3 hours straight.

ABC wanted schedule synergy among the east coast and central time zone stations. Kelly & Mark @ 9:00, local news @ 10:00, The View @ 11:00/10:00 Central, Local News @ Noon/11:00 Central, GMA3 @ 1:00/Noon central, Tamron Hall @ 2:00/1:00 central, and GH @ 3:00/2:00 central.

It's news and entertainment, leisure, and fun and drama for all the stay-at-home moms, and dads, and the elderly.

Still seems weird to now have 4 meteorologists assigned to weekdays (Sam, Brittany, Dani, & Lee) and only 1 (Jeff) on weekends for now. I thought hiring Dani was supposed to alleviate some of burden. That's usually the point of having 5 meteorologists on staff. The channel 7 strategy is very confusing. The only other thing I can think of is Dani taking over weekend mornings for good and only working 2-3 days during the week at 10:00 & Noon

You guys keep forgetting Sam doesn’t do Fridays someone has to fill in those days. That could me I’ll be rotating meteorologists that could explain it.

They'll probably alternate who works the 10am & Noon. I doubt we'll ever see 3 meteorologists on one newscast on a regular basis, unless there's a big storm

It is overkill, Here in Raleigh there using Kweylin for the new 10am show, she’ll be doing the weather along with the morning and noon, in fact the same anchors are also doing all 3 newscasts.

    https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2023/08/11/fox-affiliate-wsvn-moving-to-broward-county.html

    Okay this is big news!

I copied from South Florida business journal, in case you missed it.

"Fox affiliate WSVN Channel 7 filed plans for a new headquarters and broadcast station in Miramar, which would clear the way for major development in its current home in North Bay Village.

Meanwhile, station owner Sunbeam Properties is working on plans for a major mixed-use project in Miramar that’s connected to the relocation of the TV station, CEO Andy Ansin said.

The City Commission will consider the site plan and a special exemption for WSVN’s new station on eight acres at the southeast corner of Miramar Parkway and Red Road on Aug. 16. It’s located just off the Florida’s Turnpike exit onto Red Road.

Sunbeam already owns the vacant property, which is part of its Miramar Park of Commerce.

The two-story station would total 71,272 square feet and have 262 parking spaces plus a 65-foot communications tower. Ansin said the dishes would beam the station’s microwave signal from Miramar to the antenna farm near the county line, instead of the signal coming from North Bay Village.

The new facility would include news studio, a second production studio, a newsroom, a weather broadcasting room, video and production control rooms, executive offices, and a staff dining room and kitchen. Ansin said the building would be constructed to continue functioning during a Category 5 hurricane, with two generators, a fuel tank for vehicles, and a backup AC. It would also be on elevated land in case of flooding.

“The city of Miramar is a great place to do business and we understand the permitting process,” Ansin said. “The location at Turnpike interchange and Red Road is a wonderful place to gather news from. It’s centrally located. And it’s a good place for employees to get to and for us to hire from.”

WSVN has 300 employees and 30 job openings, with salaries for new positions as high as $135,000, he said. The new station would include a second studio so WSVN could fill programming and perhaps commercials and third-party productions while the newscasters are occurring in the other studio, he added.

Oklahoma City-based Rees is the architect of the project.

Ansin said moving WSVN to Miramar is conditioned on the approval of another project Sunbeam will present to the City Commission in a few months. Ansin said Sunbeam filed development plans for the northeast corner of Red Road and Miramar Parkway, seeking approval for about 2,800 apartments, a hotel, and about 300,000 square feet of commercial space, including about 40,000 for a grocer, 40,000 of entertainment and 120,000 square feet of restaurants.

“We need to have more services in Miramar before we move Channel 7 there,” Ansin said. “And also for the business park. In order to keep all these companies in Miramar, it’s necessary to have more services for their employees.”

Moving WSVN from North Bay Village would be complicated and expensive, Ansin said, as the station wouldn’t go off the air for a second. It would set up all the new equipment in Miramar while still broadcasting in North Bay Village, run some beta tests in Miramar, and then “flip the switch” to move the broadcast to Miramar, he said.

Pending approval, WSVN could move within three years, Ansin said.

The reason for the move: Sunbeam is pursuing a major mixed-use project in North Bay Village. In October, the developer won village approval for up to 7.3 million square feet of development on the 12.9 acres it owns there. WSVN has been in North Bay Village for 60 years, but its waterfront site is a prime development location.

Ansin said Sunbeam would start redevelopment on the south side of 79th Street first, in about 24 to 30 months, before redeveloping the WSVN property on the north side of the street. The first building would be a 40-story mixed-use tower, he said.

“It will create a whole new image for North Bay Village,” Ansin said. “We want retail and restaurant space on the water, and then on the second floor another restaurant with a big open terrace.”"

So in words this is about the money, so they tryna make the property more valuable by moving the station to another location. So they can redevelop there current property. I hope they continue the news plex studio look in the new building.

Ohhhh, okay. That's fair, but I'm sure they'd be able to handle it. Besides, WNN/ATM anchor is never a long-term position. I thought you were suggesting some kind of conflict of interest in appearing on back-to-back shows.

True. I thought Shirleen would be a good fit for a role like that she even if I remember announced her third pregnancy one time on the show. And then after she did WABC’s morning news. But I doubt it no personality at channel 7 ever takes a network position it’s almost like a hands off.

Yeah, Rosanna is especially vocal anytime a story about restaurant regulation comes up. It’s particularly egregious because her family owns Fresco by Scotto in midtown east. No idea why Fox 5 seemingly doesn’t have an issue with blatant bias.

i don’t think Rosanna is biased at all I think she’s a great journalist, she’s trying to speak off experience as she’s a restaurant owner herself, she’s trying to present it in a way a New Yorker would do if that was there restaurant that could be affected same thing applies to congestion pricing.

I was surprised to see Mike at 11pm after seeing him with Shirleen this morning. Liz came off the 11pm news a decade or so ago and rarely, if ever, appears on the late news. Most times she’ll fill in at 5pm and I’ve seen her fill in at noon but never 11pm.

I wonder when we’ll learn a decision on the morning anchor as Mike and Shirleen are really good together and he’s not been on weekends since Ken left.

Yea but then Mike doing mornings if that happens his wife who also is a morning news anchor but at network I wonder if she might have to leave and go local.

It's a base graphics package that both stations' meteorologists have customized for their needs. If you don't like the way it looks on KTRK, well, that's the way their meteorologists have decided to use it. It's essentially a LEGO set. They were sent a box of parts, and this is how they've assembled them.

There's nothing more that can be said about this.

It was customized for the needs and they ordered it for Steve Stewart to make them of course he from WTVD is head of graphics.

I happen to disagree; I still think that overall, the new graphics look great. These things are subjective, so while I somewhat disagree with you, I’ll try to see where you’re coming from. There are even people out there who like the latest WRIC graphics, and if that isn’t proof that appearance is subjective, I don’t know what is.

I understand the criticism of it being cluttered if we’re strictly talking about the use of 3D in the intros and transitions. These elements would’ve looked better 5 years ago, and they still look ok today imo, but I can see how those transitions may not age well as years go by. Still, I’d argue that these elements still look better than anything coming out of most of the major station owning groups out there. You could easily make the same criticism of the new Gray graphics, but the consensus around here seems to be that those look pretty good.

When it comes to the ticker and L3s, which is what people see most of the time, I don’t see any issues there. Those look more than fine; they’re clean, easy to read, and they’re simple enough. Who gives a damn if there’s a slight gradient? The ABC L3s are far less cluttered than anything coming from the non-O&Os. That even includes Tegna, which recently updated their L3s to take up a third of the screen for some reason. IMO, the new L3s are a massive improvement over what most of the O&Os have at the moment (looking at WABC, especially).

True I loved the new graphics, the time temp and current conditions in the open are good. But that Chicago how will it work in Raleigh-Durham, how will it work in New York, or Philadelphia I mean you're talking about traditions and modernizing them. Like WABC they not gonna axe there talent opens they tired that in late 1999-2004. It was so bad at some point in that time they stopped doing it all together really in 2001 they stopped it. WPVI is not gonna get rid of there iconic open except for the title card. WLS has only been the one that's progressive minded when it comes to modernizing things like tweaking there iconic legacy-stimulus theme music. Bringing back “Eyewitness News” moniker, changing there set. Having had several retirements from it perfect news team, and they've easily gotten viewers accustomed to a new generation of news anchors.

Channel 13 used to welcome people calling their newsroom for comments, complaints, and criticisms. I really do care about Channel 13, but like many Eyewitness News viewers in Houston, feel betrayed by a station that stopped caring about us.

It's about consistency that why ABC O&O                                                                                                             WTVD is number #1. Because if that we use tools like the data tracker, the crime spoter, and talk and focus on issues like crime in Downtown Raleigh and Durham. We also split coverage between the 2 areas unlike the competition. It's about listening, and going in-depth and that what maybe sister-station, KTRK is missing there still ratings leader of course Houston’s Best Station imo but while yes KPRC is giving them and run for their money, they are trying. I think the group-wide package might be a dumpster fire if there is no input.

Who is making millions in local TV these days, even in market #1?

Maybe Chuck Scarborough and Bill Rittet and Maurice Dubios. I can't see myself being a journalist in New York unless it national. It's too expensive.

John Marshall actually departed from Fox Weather in September 2022. Looks like he's been doing his own thing on social media ever since.

I don't know why he left? I don't understand why native NY journalists hate national news and weather channels despite the good pay and the luxuries, local news can go so far with budgets to make millions it takes time and longevity, national news is great pay. Matt Lauer and Al Roker have shown it can be done.

Looks like the 30 year stretch of In-Sink is coming to an end on WRAL.

Honestly it's about time they've used it forever through it's many tracks I think in the late 90s maybe 1996. They started using in-sink music.
