  1. I couldn’t find any previous topics for this, so I made one. The BBC has once again released its annual pay list. This is only for those getting pay from the BBC more than likely from the tv license fee. Gary Lineker still comes in on top with £1.35M ($1.74M). Everyone else is below £1M. BBC News main anchor Huw Edwards is still between £435,000 to £439,999 (roughly $563,000 to 569,000), which is way below what the big three network anchors make. Full list from the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-66156287
  2. I know we have talked about this before for previous years, but why hasn’t the BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 tired to sell some of their shows to the US syndicate market? I’ll say it, I will watch Countdown, Pointless, and Tipping Point before I watch another newscast.
  3. KRON will add a 2pm newscast and will rejoin everyone else at 11pm. Safe to say the 8 and 9 will be axed. https://www.kron4.com/news/bay-area/kron4-to-become-cw-affiliate-this-fall/
  4. Add another one to the list: WISH-TV meteorologist Randy Ollis announced this morning he is leaving the station at the end of August. https://www.wishtv.com/news/local-news/randy-ollis-to-step-away-from-wish-tv-in-august/
  5. Long time NewsChannel 5 anchor Vicki Yates has announced she is retiring at the start of June https://www.newschannel5.com/news/vicki-yates-to-retire-after-more-than-three-decades-at-newschannel-5
  6. Update to with the BBC and Channel 4. A lot has happened since May like one PM kicked out by his party, another that just up and quit, and one that seems to be ok. We also say “God Save The King.” Anyway, the sale of Channel 4 is off and has been since January. The last time talk of selling Channel 4 was back in 2016. As for the BBC, well things have changed and some may not. BBC World News did merge with the BBC News Channel (UK). Not many people are happy with that. BBC 4 might stay on the air now. Ratings for the network in December hit 19 million while February was 15.9 million. Four is running mainly older programming like Come Dancing and the great Keeping Up Appearances. The budget for Four is £22M while BBC Three has a budget of £80M and has had terrible ratings since restarting. At the same time, the BBC is cutting roughly 1000 hours of programming this year. In 2022, the broadcaster made 12,500 hours, or 34.25 hours a day. As for CBBC, no changes have been made thus far. https://deadline.com/2023/01/channel-4-sale-off-rishi-sunak-michelle-donelan-1235211970/ https://deadline.com/2023/03/bbc-considers-bbc4-closure-u-turn-1235314448/amp/ https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-65129480.amp
  7. Streaming? That’s just a fad. Betamax, that is the future.
  8. Well, well, well. This gonna be great for WOOD-TV. I’m pretty sure they are happy about this and celebrating in the newsroom. https://www.woodtv.com/about-us/wood-tv8-launches-two-hour-delayed-news-stream/ If you listen carefully, you can hear Fox17 and WZZM putting new promos together.
  9. Screenshot from my phone at the start of the news at 10. It still has traces of the Nexstar days, but it was probably easier refresh than a full studio remodel. The BAM behind Phil and Alexis is something I haven’t seen in the market before. I don’t really know if any markets around Indy have something like it. Graphics package looks like Action News Jax meets WISH graphics from Nexstar. I did notice “steps” behind Phil, which makes me wonder if the desk can be moved and those can be used for any anchor stand ups for specials, etc.
  10. Meteorologist Stephanie Mead posted this last week. If you look past what she is wearing, it looks like weather is back in studio while news is still in the newsroom. Based on the background, they are probably keeping their current graphics package.
  11. Hopefully, Deathstar… err Nexstar is smart and will still let stations live stream in real time severe weather. But this is the same company that didn’t have their cable channel break into programming for the death of Her Late Majesty The Queen. I do want to know how many current stations still don’t have live stream of any kind. I know in the past two years, one of the stations I grew up watching finally got live stream, but for some of their newscast. And that is if they remember to turn it on.
  12. I wish (and I mean really wish) the networks would take a page from their UK and Canadian colleagues and redo election night coverage by blowing out the commercials. As a bigger fan of British TV and a fan of British elections, I just wish we could have BBC type election coverage with the “Swingometer” showing overall NATIONAL vote for the house in real time. The chances of any of this ever happening is 0%, but one can dream.
  13. Lisa: All right! It's time for ABC's "TGIF" line-up! Bart: Lis, when you get a little older, you'll learn that Friday is just another day between NBC's "Must See Thursday" and CBS' "Saturday Night Craporama".
  14. News from Indianapolis: The WTHR Helipad is no more. Chopper 13 is said to have gone away around lockdown. For those keeping track, all the Indy stations do not have a chopper.
  15. Something I’ve been thinking the past few days: Keep Nightly News at 6:30, but add a 30 minute prime time newscast at 10:30 after local news at 10. If that is done, hopefully Nightly News isn’t rushed and more time can be given for different stories. Also, big breaking news event or just a major event of the day, push the Tonight Show back by 10, 15+ minutes. For the State Funeral of The Queen, BBC News at 10 was an hour long.
  16. How much longer until Fort Wayne does this again?
  17. Funeral Coverage for the UK goes like this. BBC: Breakfast will start at its normal time of 6 and run until 8. At that time, Huw Edwards and Fergal Keane will start all day reporting from London with David Dimbleby, who I haven’t seen since he left Question Time, and Kristy Young will report from Windsor. The program will run on BBC One, BBC Two, BBC News, BBC World News, BBC Parliament, and BBC iPlayer. This will also be on PBS and BBC America starting at a later time. BBC Two will be with British Sign Language. The BBC News will air at 5pm on BBC One with regional news at 5:50, The One Show starting at 6:15, Paddington 2 at 6:50, then a recap of the days events right after. BBC News at 10 will air for one hour. On the radio side, Radio 4, 5 Live, Radio Wales, and Radio Scotland will start at 9 and run until 1:30 and then restart at 2:30 and go until 5. BBC Local Radio will be from 10-2 with Radio 2 and 3 airing the funeral at 11. Radio 1, 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network, and Radio 6 Music will have news updates. Radio 1 Dance and Radio 1 Relax will simulcast Radio 1. CBBC and CBeebies will air as normal. BBC Three and BBC Four will start at normal times of 7 that evening. ITV: Good Morning Britain will run from 6 until 9:30. At 9:30, Tom Bradby and Julie Etchingham will host the main coverage from Windsor until 6. Regional News will start at 6 with the ITV Evening News at 6:30. 7:30 will bring a recap of the last 10 days with a recap of the day at 9. Tom Bradby will then present the ITV News at 10 for a full hour with regional news afterwards. The full day will be broadcast on ITV and ITV 2, 3, 4, ITVBe, and CITV. Sky: As it has for the past 10 days, Sky News will have rolling coverage anchored by its team that have during the time period. The funeral will be broadcast live on all of the Sky channels. This will include Sky Showcase, Sky Max, Sky Arts, Sky History, and all the Sky Sports channels just to name a few. Channel 4: Channel 4 will not air the funeral, but will be showing programming related to the Royal Family including a documentary on the Queen’s Coronation in 1953. Channel 4 News will air at 1:25 and run until 2:50 and it’s main 7PM newscast until 8:30. The channel will air the two minutes of silence on the main channel and a few of its digital channels. Channel 5: Channel 5 will also not be broadcasting the funeral and will instead air it’s normal children's programming followed by The Emoji Movie, Stuart Little, Ice Age 3, and Sing. 5 News at 5 will run until 6:15. Global: All ads will be paused for 24 hours starting at Midnight. From 10 until 1, LBC’s Nick Ferrari will anchor coverage on all of Globals stations: Capital, Gold, Classic FM, Heart, Smooth, RadioX, and LBC News.
  18. Connie Leonard has left WAVE in Louisville. Back in June she was taken off the anchor desk of Sunrise. https://www.wave3.com/2022/09/10/connie-leonards-last-day-wave/
  19. Mary Nightingale of ITV announced the death of The Queen Mother in March 2002. Today, she announced the death of The Queen.
  20. This is a case where Omar wishes he wasn’t Lisa’s replacement; He wishes he was the replacements replacement.
  21. Anchor Alexis Rogers posted yesterday they are back in the newsroom as their new set is being put together. The old one was put under Nexstar in mid-2018, so it’s not that old. But Nexstar owns CBS4/Fox59 now, so McCoy probably wanted to leave the Nexstar days behind now.
  22. “Head of Bell says Lisa LaFlamme’s departure not related to age, gender, or grey hair“ CTV didn’t write the article, The Canadian Press did, so, you know. Yeah. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/head-of-bell-says-lisa-laflamme-s-departure-not-related-to-age-gender-or-grey-hair-1.6045867
  23. Global at 6:30 (30 minutes), CBC at 10 (hour), and CTV is at 11 (30 minutes) and is the number one newscast in Canada (well, for now; see Lisa LaFlamme for more). Why are the networks given only 30 minutes in the evening? At one time NBC planned on having Nightly News go to a full hour in the early 80s, but nothing happened.
