  1. In theory, NewsNation is a fantastic idea. Given Sinclair's spread across the country, they are positioned to have coverage of many major news events via their local affiliates. 10-12 years ago might have been a boom. Today with the over saturation of news, or "news", it's just another statistic. Instead of a network, Nexstar may have been better off with starting NewsNation as an hour-long "national" newscast on their stations to test the waters. Surely someone had to do their research to know that NewsNation would have been more profitable than WGNA (you'd think?) but testing it on their stations would have given them a decent ratings picture. For the sake of all the employees, I hope NewsNation finds at least enough success to remain a going concern.
  2. Speaking of CBS- Could have been the "rival network" that was spoke of... If George thought all along he should have had WNT and not Muir, and saw an opportunity at getting the chair at CBSEN to try to start and win a rivalry?
  3. I love the release on their website: "KTLA has a long history of firsts when it comes to technology..." Forget that CBSN, ABC O&O's, Gray, Scripps, etc have had Roku/Fire/AppleTV apps for a long time- Nexstar stations are leading the way like the Internet Explorer of SmartTV news that they are!
  4. VS1 was beyond a colossal nightmare. But, For markets where there are duopolies with owner groups (Where Fox O&O's have the MyNet "plus" channels, for example) could there be an emergence of bidding to put pro sports on those channels for broadcast TV? First ones that come to mind are- Minneapolis (WFTC), Dallas (KTXA), Denver (KWGN, KCDO) At least with WFTC, they once upon a time in the UPN29 days had Twins and Wolves games (albeit, in conjunction with Fox Sports North)
  5. Could a working "newsroom" be in the works since CBS Evening News Weekend is using the setup in the main newsroom? Or possibly something that would include a "working" background for CBSN Chicago? WBBM Seems to like the newsroom studio setup more than their state of the art studio upstairs...
  6. And the top of the logo bug box does not line up with the top of the rest of the L3's... It's a little annoying.
  7. Fact. "Today" has plugged the hell out of "Peacock" the last couple months on the show, and "CTM" loves having Simon & Shuster authors (co-owned with CBS) on regularly as well as giving rave reviews to that NFL game on Nickelodeon earlier this month. Is there anything wrong with plugging sister networks/companies? Of course not. But it seems to be happening way more than ever on morning TV.
  8. The major problem though is that on-air, these have been atrocious to watch. Animations seldom work (delayed, glitchy, animations seem incomplete), the quad-sreen over Morken's shoulder has been blacked out during the newscast all week (the screens themselves are not new- part of the studio re-design in 2012-ish. Is it software related? pre-mature rollout?
  9. So is this a subtle way of KSTP grounding "Chopper 5"? Last in the market with their own aircraft since WCCO/KMSP/KARE pool theirs...
  10. Average viewer isn't going to care or probably even realize, but the reflection of the OTS screen on the viewer's left is perpetually stuck on an inverted "NIGHTLY" logo instead of reflecting what the OTS has on it. Makes sense for the shots where the NN logo is what's on the OTS... Design flaw? (Look at 1:14 to see what I mean)
  11. In Northern MN this week and have watched more than my fair share of WDIO- Weather graphics, yes, KOIN knockoff, News opens/graphics have more of a WISH-TV feel to them. Honestly thought the old graphics (Scripps early 2010's knockoffs) were better, but hey, they're still #1 so what do I know?
  12. Almost certainly. They've dubbed him "AM Chief Meteorologist" for a while now.
  13. 43 years doing weather at one station... That's got to be a record right? Dave Dahl calling it quits at KSTP. https://kstp.com/news/kstp-chief-meteorologist-dave-dahl-retiring-after-43-years-at-5-eyewitness-news-october-29-2020/5910456/?cat=1
  14. In what world is CBS suddenly expanding/hiring? They just did a mass cleansing at their O&O's nationwide?
  15. Gray is launching 4:00 news on KVLY 11.2 (CBS/KX4) Fargo today. Displaces Judge Judy (Which already gets an hour earlier in the day on 11.1/NBC) Not the first 4:00 for the market- WDAY/ABC has had news in the timeslot for a couple of years now.
  16. Would picking WCCO make sense? O&O station, epicenter of what caused all the protests?
  17. Sven Sundgaard out at KARE/Minneapolis. Turns out TEGNA indeed has a problem with staff calling people "white nationalist Nazi sympathizer gun fetishist miscreants"
