It seems like a demotion for Brooke if this it's what's happening here. I think she has more name recognition over Brianna and Kate.

I feel really bad for Brooke right now. I know Jake's very qualified for the job, but it looks like Brooke has no say in this whole thing. This seems possibly very shady.
They also mention Erin Burnett. Does she even do anything else besides anchoring OutFront or moderating debates on occasion? She seemed to do much more with CNBC compared to now on CNN.

About DIsh, I've always enjoyed their service, but I'm really getting tired of their disputes. I've had them for over 15 years. They claim that networks want to charge them much higher prices, which I don't agree with. But it seems like whenever a dispute happens, most of the time, channels get dropped. And with 7 disputes going on with them, I refuse to believe that it's just the owners of stations, and that Dish has to be part of the problem. It seems like you don't hear about much disputes with Comcast/Xfinity.

Watched the premiere tonight. Shep seemed very happy to be back on the air again. There was a 50/50 mix of CNBC talent and NBC News talent. It's been a few weeks since I watched NewsNation, so I'm not sure if "The News" is better than NewsNation or not. I wish Shep the best of luck too!

You know, if it weren't for the rights being so blippin' expensive, I'd have suggested that the leagues would just give up on the RSNs and put the games on indie stations (including affiliates of MyNetworkTV, which is hardly a network at all by this point anyway) like the old days. As it stands currently, though, I think streaming services like YouTube, Amazon, or even ESPN+ are probably the most likely candidates to get those kinds of rights.
I agree. With antennas becoming more popular, why not move all the games over the air for free like they did in the old days, and have the teams themselves produce the games?
-
RSN's are only good for live sports and team-centric shows, All other content is a dumping ground for stuff that few people care about, like golf tours and air racing, along with low-budget documentaries. Move it all to streaming services and just focus on live sports. All RSN's are a big waste outside of live sports.

It looks like we'll see a lot of CNBC talent who have experience as regular journalists doing general news. I'll definitely tune in tomorrow.

Either way, there is blood on Jeff Zucker's hands. Trump aside, he still nearly destroyed NBCUniversal during his tenure.
Yes indeed. He was the biggest person responsible for the Jay Leno-Conan O'Brien controversy, and made NBC have a bad reputation during that time, and he's doing the same to CNN. I have heard many CNN employees were happy about his arrival. Did they not realize his time at NBCUniversal, and how disastrous it was?

The New York Times had an article about Zucker's fallout with Trump. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson decided to keep him in 2018. People in the business gave two theories on why the network's so obsessed with Trump. One theory is that Zucker just wants anything outrageous for ratings. The 2nd theory is that he's just wanting to take him down. It does mention that Zucker's never been a hard news person, and only cares about ratings, corporate success and trying to win. A former NBC exec said that Zucker's quench for ratings blinded him to the point of nonstop coverage. He said it's one thing if you have a thirst for ratings but it's entirely different for news. ABC exec Ben Sherwood on the other hand basically defended him talks about how he's a great man. I prefer the former's statement over the latter.

They got a new logo too. Not too bad.

I've seen Dan a few times on GMA Weekend and think he does a great job there.
I'm more of a fan of the calm style delivery of news, but I'm guessing more people prefer the more urgent, "shouting" delivery of the news. At least Muir only does it for the opening headlines.

Not until ratings tank... don’t hold your breath.
“Breaking As We Come On The Air Tonight!! That girl, dunking her chicken nuggets in what she thought was ketchup, that moment she realized it was blood, horrified onlookers calling the police. And later that moment that everyone realized that I learned to talk like this from William Shatner, the story, that Will warm. your heart.”
Whatever happened to anchoring like they used to do? It’s not like talking conversationally is THAT hard. I don’t know a single person that speaks like David Muir. Nobody. It can be distracting.
As soon as the ratings go down, something may change.
As much as how David speaks dramatically, I think Tom Llamas is even more dramatic and always sounds like he's doing a Shatner impression. Even his facial looks on the air aren't natural. I wish they brought Dan Harris back to weekends, or even give Whit Johnson a chance.

I think both Amy and T.J. are a great pair. That being said, I'm not sure if the hard news hour will be a long term-thing. I wouldn't be surprised if ABC goes back to lifestyle and entertainment when the news cycle is less busy compared to now with the election and the pandemic.

The opening phrase Breaking tonight as we come on the air is starting to get old already.
I agree, but ABC probably won't change anything.

Yes, and Nora at CBS bragged at her inauguration that she was proud that the headlines were reduced down in time in
an interview. CBS is now at point where it's worse than ABC. Lead with the lead. Let the reporters tell their stories!
New idea, Nora does the headlines from Washington and John Dickerson anchors the show from the Broadcast Center.
How about Norah in Washington and Jeff Glor in New York?

I’ve been dreaming of the day they brought back the Jennings-era theme... and am so glad it has finally happened! Love that the voiceover intros the newscast the same way it used to introduce Peter.. “from ABC News world headquarters in New York...”
another throwback to the Jennings era!I too am glad that ABC brought back the world headquarters phrase in the open.
-
The intro reminds me of the Diane Sawyer intro from 2009. I really like the new VO artist too. Always liked that theme over the new theme. I hope they bring back the old ending with the Times Square live photo and the same theme as well.

Agreed. That updated, more rounded, L-shape desk from the TV3 thread would be much better.
I wouldn't bet on it. I'd like to think the lower thirds within the safe zone, at some point, but I'd bet the rest of the package will hang on for awhile longer.
The lower thirds probably might change, but I wouldn't be surprised to see entirely new graphics by next year except the new opening title card return of the old theme. I bet the current package stays intact for the remainder of the year.
-
I like the new darker logo and set. It has to be not long before there's completely new graphics. They've had the same graphics for nearly 5 years now.
-
I think the new logo is half Vistaprint, half Vagisil and half Valvoline all in one. Even Vagisil's logo rips off the Valvoline colors.

Nice to see Sara back.
The logo is OK but looks very modern, similar to a lot of recent logo changes.

I personally can’t stomach much of WNT under Muir’s hand but because he’s been a smashing success (even before COVID-19) I don’t see them changing anything up. We’re still waiting on them to move to a new set that they’ve managed to use for several other programs.
Without a doubt, Lester Holt and NBC are producing the best news product anywhere at 6:30 pm. They blow ABC and CBS out of the water.
ABC won't change anything with WNT as long as it's the #1 in the evening news lineup. Muir is a great anchor who does a great job, but I'm not a big fan of the sometimes overly dramatic presentation.
Ever since CBS demoted Jeff Glor, I too think Lester and NBC have the best newscast. I also like that NBC now puts the full newscast on Youtube and the Kids Edition of Nightly News is pretty interesting.

The headline preview at the beginning of the show is way too long...and so overly dramatic..
And they keep teasing the same upcoming stories too many times, before going to commercial. It's becoming like Inside Edition.
Yeah, I feel like the headlines preview could be cut down to a minute or two. At least it's better than CBS'S "But first, the headlines in 60 seconds" that was used for a few months in Jeff Glor's run.
7 hours ago, RealNews18 said:Agreed. And the “breaking news as we come on the air tonight” has got to stop.
I'm really getting tired of the "breaking news as we come on the air" or the "several developing stories" phrases. It sounds somewhat predictable and robotic and got old a couple years ago. I don't remember ABC doing this years ago. As much as I like Muir, I wish he could tone down the dramatic tone when reading the opening headlines. It won't happen though.
6 hours ago, ProButtonPusher said:Can David whispering “goodnight” and the cold fade to black stop as well, while we are putting in our TVNT requests?
I'm not a fan of the cold fade. I wish they'd show the outside camera of Times Square and an ending version of the music package. I'm glad NBC and CBS still do this.

So regardless of my opinion, the ratings aren't exactly soaring. That's quite enough for me to see that she doesn't make a compelling anchor or ME. That, informing my opinion, doesn't make me look too kindly on the move to DC. Also, since the formatting is pretty much identical across networks, I would have blown that up instead of weakly leaning into it. Honestly, the network national program concept is sinking pretty quickly and a reinvention to inspire whatever viewers are remaining would be good.
Norah's an OK anchor but nothing special. I feel that Jeff Glor was pushed out when he was getting popular and I feel CBS has tried everything since Dan retired and still can't get out of 3rd place. Unfortunately, one network has to be in 3rd and ABC and NBC have been more popular with viewers for the past 15 years. In the year since Norah became anchor, the ratings have not changed. Glor was a great anchor who should have been given more time. Does Norah really add anything compared to Glor or Pelley, or even Couric? The only thing I notice is that they're copying the WNT route of an overly dramatic opening and Breaking News every single night, not even that's brought more viewers. If the ratings are still that bad a year from now, they'll replace Norah and wonder what they did wrong.

I feel bad for Brooke. I think she has more longevity on CNN compared to Kate or Brianna.
I've said before that Zucker is the main problem with why CNN is going downhill. The whole yelling panels haven't worked. As for all new anchors, I would really hate to see staples like Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper leave, although Wolf will probably retire in 5 years or less. (he says he's not ready yet). I think Erin Burnett is better for financial news and always thought she was better at CNBC. I know many people think Jake Tapper should have been the permanent host for "This Week" 10 years ago. Chris Cuomo seems burned out but wants to stay at CNN. I'm not sure about what Don Lemmon would do, maybe anchor at MSNBC.
I wish AT&T would realize that Zucker has ruined nearly everything he's touched in his career and force him to resign, but instead they let him run all of their sports broadcasting divisions too. I'm not sure if he's ruined those assets too.
