WPHL meteorologist Monica Cryan did the weather on PIX this morning (I believe remotely). I also realized that WPHL has nearly identical graphics to WPIX.

Because the WPHL graphics are the PIX-11 graphics.

Checking the schedule, https://www.nbc.com/schedule, I noticed there are no live morning newscasts on WNBC Christmas day.

The first newscast of the day is News 4 NY at 6. Is this new or a standard thing for them?

Checking the schedules for the other stations: WABC is 5-7am. WCBS is 6am. WPIX is 4-8am. WNYW is the regular 4:30-10am.

Possibly to give the AM crew Christmas Day off.

I have a question that's been bugging me lately. Can a tv station use their physical digital channel number in their branding rather than their virtual channel?

Well, KSWB San Diego is channel 69, but brands on air as "Fox 5 San Diego". Same goes for KNSD Channel 39, which calls itself "NBC 7 San Diego"

I'm watching on CBS News New York and it looks the same to me so far, only noticeable upgrade are the video panels, now seamless.

Well, CBS is exploring a potential sale of the Broadcast Center, so they may not get a new set until that happens.

For additional context: A few weeks ago, WABC's corporate sibling, ESPN, fired reporter Marly Rivera for calling a fellow reporter that very word, which ended up on video

Not to mention, this is coming after Disney is laying off people across the board.

    It's a page six exclusive: https://pagesix.com/2023/05/12/abc-7-anchor-ken-rosato-immediately-fired-over-hot-mic-remark/

I'd imagine this bad comment must've been heard over the air? Definitely not the first time we've seen versions of this in the NY market, but I suppose it was more than just accidental profanity?

While the remark may have not made it on air at Channel 7, the Golden rule still applies: Assume every mic and camera is on and can hear you.

Former longtime WNEW/WNYW FOX 5 News anchor John Roland passed away. Condolences go out to The Roland Family and to his extended family at New York's FOX 5. RIP John and Godspeed. And say hello to Bill McCreary from all of us here. I know that they're now reunited in heaven and anchoring the news together again.

Here's his former co-anchor Rosanna Scotto with the report.

For the first time ever, an O&O met has been tasked with filling in on Fox Weather.

Tom Wachs from Fox 6 Milwaukee has flown to New York, and they just announced on air that he will be filling in for Michael Estime this weekend Sat/Sun from 10am-2pm ET on Fox Weather Live.

I'm surprised that they grabbed someone from Milwaukee as they could easily get any of the meteorologists from the New York-based O&O WNYW.

That said, out of personal curiosity, what are the weather assignments on FOX5, these days, under normal circumstances? Mike on GDNY, Nick at night (ha), but where does everyone else appear?

Audrey Puente on weekends and Reagan Medgie as needed, plus reporting on GDNY.

Maybe she went to network, and her agent might want her to keep quiet, but do you still retain keycards, or a new one?

Well, if she did end up at ABC network, she would still be in the same building, as both Network and 7 are at Lincoln Square.

    Yup!

No one at the station cares about the wonderful tradition that has been part of New York broadcasting for

    so many decades.

Last year, when Covid restrictions had already began to ease, WNBC chose not to produce the "Holdiay Song"

outdoors.  When I questioned management about this, the excuse was that the Prometheus Fountain area was

in the midst of alterations.  Surely, there were other outdoor locations that could have been used.  But no one

    seemed to care!

Also, last year, was the first and only time that the music chosen was a "Christmas Song," not the longstanding

policy to only use "Holiday Songs."  When I pointed this out to management, the response was "Really?"

Ignorance and Apathy rule supreme at 30 Rock!

There has been a recent uptick in COVID cases in NYC to where the health department is recommending masks both indoors and outdoors. Also, NBCUniversal is in the middle of layoff/buyouts at the present moment. If anything, WNBC may just switch to a taped performance out of an abundance of caution and cost-cutting. It's not the end of the world.

TMZ actually reported that today, and they also said that Amy & T.J. were made aware of that decision this morning.

The story I read even has quotes from ABC News President Kim Godwin on the subject (supposedly, these quotes were from an editorial meeting at ABC News this morning).

Unfortunately, I don’t have the link, but if you Google “TMZ Holmes Robach,” it should be one of the first stories that come up…..

Per Page Six, Gio Benitez and Stephanie Ramos will be filling for the rest of the week & that this was not T.J.'s first affair at the network.

It's made more complicated by Investigation Discovery having a much better brand and name awareness despite a smaller nationwide cable footprint.

Plus—per Stelter—the simulcast of CNN This Morning is explicitly due to carriage contracts with cable companies that require HLN air a bare minimum of news programming. Stelter’s background working for CNN makes him very unlikely to simply make up an urban legend.

At this point now that Morning/Weekend Express has been canceled, What exactly is HLN at this point? What would be the justification for TV companies to justify having it on its system?
