    I don’t think it’s a good logo for me I feel like we’re back in the 80s

WXIA's 1980s logo was much better than what they just unveiled here.

Very sad news indeed.   Next to Dick Goddard, Don Webster was a fixture of WEWS, from hosting Upbeat, and even serving as the stations' general manager in the 1980s (when he ceded weather duties to Tom Tasslemyer).  He returned to weather in 1989 and was the chief meteorologist for the next decade until his retirement.

It's good to hear that Mark didn't disappear either...could he be going back to mornings?

Huge loss for Cleveland television with Don's passing.

  3. Just found this earlier tonight. Here's a 7 hour upload of C-SPAN coverage of the 1994 midterm elections (hope you've got plenty of free time if you were to watch uninterrupted)

Also worth noting are several cut-ins to local stations (for example, WUSA, WFAA, KGO and New York 1 News) for victory and concession speeches.

  4. That’s just a standard 2000’s Gray open to me. Not bad, not great.

You must be a youngin’... this is what that open replaced. I remember WCTV being mocked around these parts for having this logo:

That logo animation looked like it came from a demo reel to show what the animators could do.

  5. From Chicago, WGN's news from 1972; the crash of United Flight 553 is the top story (w/ sound issues at the beginning):

CBS News correspondent Michelle Clark died in the crash.

Thus creating one of the biggest "what could have beens" in the history of network television news; as CBS was reportedly planning to add her to the 60 Minutes team in 1973 (as it was, the first black member of the 60 Minutes team would be when Ed Bradley took the spot vacated when Dan Rather was promoted to CBS Evening News anchor; while 3 years later Diane Sawyer would be the first woman to be a correspondent for the series).

Also among the dead in that crash were Illinois Congressman George Collins and Dorothy Hunt (wife of E. Howard of the then-brewing Watergate scandal; reportedly carrying about $10,000 in hush money)

  6. From my vault (save for the first, the rest are from May 3, 1993).

1989 WVEC produced PSA for a Norfolk charity called "Christian Action" (also one of two uploads that I did a slight color correction experiment on)

    1993 WAVY Promo (Contact 10)

1993 WAVY Promo (Medical Breakthroughs; tease for the segment airing at 11:00 that night)

1993 WAVY-WWDE Promo (Jerry Seinfeld at Chrysler Hall -- semi-related to news; as Hampton Roads radio legend Dick Lamb teases a piece on the following Sunday's WAVY News 10 at 11:00 on how to get tickets and passes to the sold-out event)

1993 WAVY News 10 at 11:00 Tease (with soon-to-depart anchor Terry Zahn)

  7. WITN's original facilities in Chocowinty NC will be demolished this week. They operated from that building from their sign on in September 1955 until June 2013 when they moved full-time into their Greenville facilities

Saw near the end of the article that they salvaged some vintage signs. Hopefully someone made sure to hang onto this one.

    A 1970s NBC relic
