  1. Was just about to post something related to this, and was disgusted in what I learned. Here's to someone reputable getting that station away from this guy ASAP.
  2. Former ABC News correspondent and KYW anchor Steve Bell passed away yesterday at the age of 83. https://www.10news.com/news/local-news/delaware-county/steve-bell-former-abc-news-anchor-and-ball-state-professor-dies-at-83
  3. WXIA's 1980s logo was much better than what they just unveiled here.
  4. With WGN, my theory is they don't want to give up the station in Tribune's home base of Chicago
  5. From the FuzzyMemories channel, this is all 5 parts of a WJLA investigative report series by Roberta Baskin called "Weaving Around the Law" on drunk drivers managing to get around laws that should have prevented them from being able to legally drive. https://youtu.be/AvIYA-8YL0E
  6. Former KARE meteorologist Jeff Edmondson returning to WAVY https://mobile.twitter.com/JeffEdmondsonWX/status/1075835520687726595 This comes as the revolving door that is WAVY's weekend meteorologist position swings again, with Ashley Baylor preparing to leave after 4 years for Connecticut. https://mobile.twitter.com/Ash_Baylor/status/1076121028621934594
  7. Huge loss for Cleveland television with Don's passing.
  8. First post in this thread since I was able to get back on here. Got a pair of short WVEC clips from '88 First, WVEC announces they are now broadcasting in stereo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN_BDnKhpEc Also, a brief WVEC plug for Oprah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfM9Debq_qY
  9. Beat me to answering the 700 Club related question. As for the original question about markets with dominant NBC stations; to my knowledge the Hampton Roads region with WAVY still counts (particularly in the A.M.; WAVY becoming the area's dominant station during the 1990s following WTKR's ill-advised "TV3 News" branding and the mid-late 1990s talent exodus at that station; before being impacted in 2009 by the Jay Leno Show debacle and WTKR finally getting their act together around that time). What's interesting to me here is that the local ABC affiliate, WVEC, doesn't get mentioned much at all in terms of local ratings. It's almost like WAVY and WTKR have been duking it out and WVEC has pretty much treaded water.
  10. WTLV promos from November 1983 (part of a "Together" theme; includes promo for anchor Mary Stewart and a brief weather tease with Mel Turner sandwiching a plug for WKRP in Cincinnati reruns)
  11. I've heard much of the WNCT simulcast on WTIB while getting squared away in Hertford. All clear in northeastern NC (had small branches blown off trees and what I'll call "nuisance" rain; but nothing worse than that). Was out of town with my family in Santee, SC last weekend; and probably would have been forced to evacuate had that stay ended later than Monday morning.
  12. From 80sCommercialVault, here's a 1978 WRC NewsCenter Forum on PCP use hosted by Jim Vance and Jim Hartz.
  13. Just found this earlier tonight. Here's a 7 hour upload of C-SPAN coverage of the 1994 midterm elections (hope you've got plenty of free time if you were to watch uninterrupted) Also worth noting are several cut-ins to local stations (for example, WUSA, WFAA, KGO and New York 1 News) for victory and concession speeches.
  14. Another Klein& upload from eyeontv, this time a series of promos from WFSB's "The Best Things in Life Are 3" campaign from January 1979.
  15. That logo animation looked like it came from a demo reel to show what the animators could do.
  16. From eyeontv, a couple of 1980 WFSB Land of the 3 promo videos Generic News (mostly repeats but with new clips at beginning)
  17. Most of those would cover my wishlist, so I'll just summarize in general anything from Hampton Roads pre-1985 or so (there have been some scattered early items, but mostly bits and pieces along with WAVY's YouTube channel periodically uploading individual reports from the tail end of the Area 10 Eyewitness News era {1978-81}); especially from WTKR since there's very little classic news footage compared to WVEC or WAVY As for specifics, one I would add would be a complete version of WVEC's early 1990s "Good People, Good News" campaign (only footage I know of is one I uploaded that came from a tape of Saturday Morning cartoons {mostly 1990 but this clip came from the middle of that tape, airing on February 1, 1992 that got cut off near the end of the promo for an episode of "Yo! Yogi" for some strange reason})
  18. Thus creating one of the biggest "what could have beens" in the history of network television news; as CBS was reportedly planning to add her to the 60 Minutes team in 1973 (as it was, the first black member of the 60 Minutes team would be when Ed Bradley took the spot vacated when Dan Rather was promoted to CBS Evening News anchor; while 3 years later Diane Sawyer would be the first woman to be a correspondent for the series). Also among the dead in that crash were Illinois Congressman George Collins and Dorothy Hunt (wife of E. Howard of the then-brewing Watergate scandal; reportedly carrying about $10,000 in hush money)
  19. Long-shot, but considering the breach of contract allegations on Tribune's part regarding Sinclair, could this be the opening act of Sinclair possibly going the way of RKO General (particularly if similar or worse actions are uncovered)?
  20. And it looks like the claims involving Fager turning a blind eye to (and some of the people have charged him with participating in) similar behavior are starting to move to the surface after being lost in the Moonves story https://deadline.com/2018/07/ronan-farrow-expose-jeff-fager-harassment-60-minutes-cbs-news-1202435522/
  21. From my vault (save for the first, the rest are from May 3, 1993). 1989 WVEC produced PSA for a Norfolk charity called "Christian Action" (also one of two uploads that I did a slight color correction experiment on) 1993 WAVY Promo (Contact 10) 1993 WAVY Promo (Medical Breakthroughs; tease for the segment airing at 11:00 that night) 1993 WAVY-WWDE Promo (Jerry Seinfeld at Chrysler Hall -- semi-related to news; as Hampton Roads radio legend Dick Lamb teases a piece on the following Sunday's WAVY News 10 at 11:00 on how to get tickets and passes to the sold-out event) 1993 WAVY News 10 at 11:00 Tease (with soon-to-depart anchor Terry Zahn)
  22. Saw near the end of the article that they salvaged some vintage signs. Hopefully someone made sure to hang onto this one.
  23. CBS We've Got the Touch '85 (upgraded version of main version plus other short versions)
  24. Here's WRC's "Bring Your Team to Our Team" series of promos from 1985 (the last of WRC's "The Team" promos)
  25. Comparing that aircheck with one of the first Daily News branded newscasts a week later, some things I noticed. 1. How much Joel Rubin did while at WAVY (6:00 anchor, gave that up to move behind the scenes for a time, general assignment and later political reporter, even subbing as sports anchor in the case of the 1986 Harborfest coverage where he and Les Smith held down the fort in the studio) 2. Comparing the open to the first Daily News version to this one would be noting a major leap forward in appearance (the Area 10 era newscast intro looks like something a larger market station might not have gotten away with after about 1975)
