Does MyNetwork provide any value to any station group outside of Fox Owned?  It's pretty useless with repeats you can find elsewhere.

There's this article from when MyNetworkTV was two years into being a programming service, with this highlight from Nexstar CEO Perry Sook: "With MyNetworkTV, I get more inventory per hour than I would get from Fox or ABC, albeit at lower ratings."

The complete dud for sure this year is iCrime, which I would call yet another 'crime porn' show. I've seen a few of these internationally where there's some host (either a female host being put on contract burn-off duty, or a military-looking guy with no sense of humor who has so much testosterone and muscle in him he's banned from even semi-pro pickleball) running down whatever's been submitted to their network, or from the "new crime + country we're in + caught on camera" YouTube search, and it's nothing but an hour of dread and terror with no levity to be found and it makes you want to build a bunker and hide from the world. If you need to die inside, look up an episode of C4 en alerta.

This is exactly like that, and I don't know why they needed Elizabeth Vargas; they could literally pay a stripper cop to present this on his off-hours and there's no difference. It's just crime after crime after crime filled with terrible phone or security cameras, lots of bleeping and blurring, a bunch of has-been 'experts' who add nothing except crime tips you learned from SafetyPup in 1988, and occasional victim interviews. It's pretty much yet another Scott Sternberg Production done on the cheap which only exists to scare people and keep MyNet affiliates on the air for two hours a day. Plus for some reason the host segments are 'filmized', when it looks like they were filmed on a TracFone Android, and I've seen better greenscreening on Zoom calls.

    THANK YOU

This has to be the best comment I've seen about most True Crime shows!

  5. I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but apparently the overnight repeats of Top Story w/ Tom Llamas on NBC stations are now using the bug for NBC News Daily!

It used to be the NBC News Now logo animation with the word "NOW" deleted. This screenshot was taken from earlier this morning...

  6. Several Hearst stations are now airing programming from their Very Local app in the former timeslots of Ellen and The Good Dish, as those shows have been (or will be) pulled from the airwaves; and their new shows aren't scheduled to premiere yet.

Speaking of KCNC, I came across this video from yesterday featuring a couple of stingers that I haven't seen before; and they look really close to the newer CBS branding - https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/news/dangerous-flooding-emergency-message-larimer-county-sheriff/

Could this be a possible hint at the new graphics?

I don't understand why there need to be special supers just for talent.

I don't think having separate L3's for anchors is the problem if it's done right. It's definitely the design in Tegna's case, as this is bordering on looking like KMSG's original set of overblown lower thirds.

Hearst has used separate L3's for anchors since the first diagrid look, and they work very well. It also helps that they actually look decent. (They still do this with the current look, but it's been consolidated onto the same L3 background)

Examples of separate L3's from the 2012 diagrid look:

ShopLC went live on WLWT 5.3 as of Friday, April 30.

...and now they're getting rid of it.

WLWT is running a crawl on there saying that they will stop carrying ShopLC on April 30th, exactly one year later.

  12. Aside from all the other issues, I'm still confused about the music situation.

So it seems to be confirmed that they're licensed to use News One, but that doesn't account for the other music packages that they used (though they all seem to be published through Warner-Chappell) which were also ripped from NewsMusicNow!

Not to mention the video that Ianman linked to earlier (but now the video is private for some reason) where the intro used the "Community" cut from the 2000s Hearst-Argyle music (which last I checked was made exclusively for those stations). It's not even from the same publisher! (Newsmusic Central)

  13. Was browsing through Tristan Bresnen's portfolio and I noticed a new look he produced for News Channel Nebraska. But it looks like a repurposed version of WFLA's graphics from 2016-2020 (that was also used on sister stations WKRN, WCMH and KELO). It's mostly the same besides it mostly being red instead of blue, as well as different looking Lower 3rds and Full Screens. Here's his case study: https://tristanbresnen.com/copy-of-currents-news-v2

I've always enjoyed WTVQ's set from 1993-1997, then Media General took the landscape background out of it and replaced it with clouds.  Then got a refresh in 2002 then went away in 2008. Not sure who did set, but I do recall seeing it at other stations.

I'm not sure who originally made it either, but I do know that FX Group did the 2002 refresh. http://web.archive.org/web/20080923183829/http://www.fxgroup.tv/portfolio/wtvq/

I just checked KOVR's live stream. The O&O graphics have not changed.

Moreover, Nexstar has a news network called NewsNation. Will the CW have itself a news division by way of NewsNation?

Be prepared for The CW to have network newscasts.

FOX has a news division that's been around since 1996, and they still don't have regular newscasts on its stations (besides Fox News Sunday). If Nexstar does buy The CW, I wouldn't expect them to have any regular news shows either, even with NewsNation as their sister division.

Well WESH was Pulitzer-owned back then (Hearst-Argyle brought all the Pulitzer-owned stations and properties by 1998 with the deal being finalized later that year), and according to a description in another YouTube video "Pulitzer had a thing for John Christopher Burns as its graphics client" so its presumably a jcbD package.

I don't know. I can't see John Christopher Burns doing a direct ripoff of another graphics package like that.

I wonder who did the WESH 1997 NewsChannel 2 graphics?, considering the fact that it was a carbon copy of WTVJ NBC6 graphics (which was done by TVbD) at the same time. Though most of the Pulitzer-owned stations relied on jcbD Design (jacob christopher burns Design) for their news graphics and station look.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GcKMmycaOk

The WTVJ look was actually done by Novocom. Not sure about the WESH version, which I'm pretty sure is a ripoff.
