This youtube creator parody of an 80s ABC O&O newscast deserves to be in the classic video - such attention to detail right down to the tone and facial expression for the opening story

Also from the same creator, a report on the explosive finale of season 3 of ST - as if it happened on CNN:

I’m uploading as much as I can in my spare time.  So far I have 90 newscasts uploaded, mostly 88-92 timeframe and am now working on the 93-95 window.  My goal is to have 200 uploaded by Labor Day.  I just missed posting a couple of “30 Years Ago Today” newscasts on the actual day (Doh!).  After about 95, I’ll have to start digitizing from tape until about 1999, where I have quite a few digitized already…

So sorry you got booted off Vimeo, but I'm glad to see you've restarted on the Internet Archive. Hope you have better luck there, and I wish you all the best with getting the rest of your content uploaded there. Thanks for posting everything.

I'll share the link to your page here:

That must have been the last time the Disney Channel was ever off the air for any sort of period, knowing they went off for a few hours every night in their first few years. The bars also have an ID box just like many OTA TV stations would use in that period. That's something new that wasn't on the '88 recording.

I'm not positive, but I think The Disney Channel had their once-monthly maintenance periods for several years after going 24/7. Not sure if that remains the case today, but I know all the other premium networks still shut down for their maintenance once a month. The other day, I found this one from Showtime circa 1985/86 (not 1987, as in the video description):

So glad to finally have this one back up on the internet where it belongs...

The Disney Channel signs off the air for a one-hour maintenance period, early on May 4th, 1988. They went 24/7 in 1986 but every once in a while, had to go off for maintenance. Before YouTube yanked my account, this video had somewhere in the ballpark of 15-20K views. I can't remember now.

A lot of people still miss ole' George Michael...and not the Wham! singer either. George Michael's Sports Machine from 2/12/1995, taped off KNDO Yakima.

An updated version of the Disney Channel's maintenance sign-off (spelling "interrupting" and "maintenance" correctly this time) was posted a few days ago:

I made a tweet about Sloan's channel being pulled down and tagged the YT Creators account about it. As someone who also has a archival channel, this deeply worries me. I worry even the algorithm could be going after NewsActive3 next. They terminated Sloan's account without any warning yet still has other archival channels like old commercial channels up. Like, this is absolutely insane and makes me worried what this means for archival content on YouTube, especially since I'm pretty sure almost all of them abide by fair use for historical purposes. It's one of the few things holding me back from uploading stuff, along with various other reasons, even though I really want to get back to the swing of things

While I can't speak for Sloan's case, I've made it clear that I never monetize my channel and that will still be the case. However, I will be making some changes. In my next video, I plan on giving credit to the original video uploader in the top right of my videos for 3-5 seconds & add in custom thumbnails, which I have done in the past in the early days of my channel as shown in the picture below (the new ones will be much better-looking than this). If I can't find who uploaded the video, I'll just put "unknown" as a placeholder & make a note in the description if I or someone knows who it is.

    image.png.4cd7f7adb61748746163cbe3911021b6.png

In addition, I'll also be uploading my compilations on the Internet Archive (archive.org) alongside YouTube, so even if YouTube does some shenanigans, the compilations will still be available for people to see & I recommend other archivists do the same.

Wow. Very sorry to hear Sloan's channel got taken down. I really enjoyed it, and I hope he can rebuild it. I did manage to grab some of his videos, specifically the WVUE/WWL newscasts he posted and the hour block of Headline News from the day they moved to CNN Center in 1987. What happened to Sloan and other collectors is why I'm no longer uploading anything to YouTube. I'll add more New Orleans stuff to my archive.org page soon, along with some other materials I haven't yet ripped.

More CNN Headline News from its golden era. This block aired May 24, 1988, and the start of the video has that copyright bumper I've been looking for for years.

How great it would be if we had anything like Headline News today. Just news, no opinions, debates, or sensationalism.
