Gray recently bought that Macon LP (not sure if they launched Telemundo yet). But if they hold on to that LP, I wouldn't be shocked if it would launch Telemundo there (if it isn't already launched).

Anywho, remember back in January, Gray bought a slew of LPs (24) from Jeff Winemiller's Lowcountry Media?

Well tonight, Gray is snagging Nine more from him for $1.8M.

I just saw that K21PE is coming from KLTV (Gray's existing full-power station)'s tower.  Seems convenient enough.

Just chiming in on this thread. Actually, I composed and produced music for 5 Seattle market TV stations at the same time which all ran concurrently.

    KOMO TV

    KING TV

    KIRO TV

    KTZZ TV

    KCPQ TV

None of the stations were aware I had done most all of their competitors. This is the first mention of it. There were other stations added to the list. WTVD, WTNH, KOVR, WIXT, KDFW and a few others. Thank you for the info. posted on this site.

Dan, just wondering, which KDFW theme did you do, and when?

With KTVT, WJZ, WBBM, and now KCNC all switching to First Alert Weather, I have cause to believe that this is a groupwide mandate (with the exceptions of Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami).

Finally an end to the dueling "weather experts" thing between KTVT ("Texas weather experts") and KXAS ("weather experts").

  5. Looks like a big anniversary with time to fill.  Since Matt went non-grata, and he was one of the longest-running hosts/anchors, the editors and producers will have to likely do a lot of editing.  Besides Matt, it's pretty certain we won't see Tamron, Ann, or Megan Kelly.  It would be nice to see Barbara again, if she were well and up and around, as she is really the last of the long-time anchors from the earlier years.  As for those able to do in-person segments and distant interviews, we still have Bryant, Jane, Katie, Meredith, Deborah, and Kathie Lee.  Hoda is back but Savannah has been distant for now, and they *still* have Dylan on maternity leave.  Except for most-recent segments and clips, I guess they can trot out things that have been seen in previous anniversaries and other clip segments.  In any event, it should be interesting to see what they do.

Weird question, but I noticed that KCRG in Cedar Rapids had to give up its Circle channel due to bandwidth being maxed out. Are there any loose LP's or low-ranked or dark stations in the market that Gray could acquire? That can shove off the CW affiliation and provide subchannel relief.

Just quick-glancing at the Rabbit Ears list, I would guess a new LP would have to crank up to return Circle to the market.  The others already there seem to be set with ownership and subchannels/channel line-ups.

ETA::: Didn't catch that both KWKB and KPXR have Laff.  I guess, barring some kind of contractual situation, KWKB could replace its Laff subchannel with Circle.

The previous look was better, cleaner, and simpler.

IMO I like the diagonal sides concept but the angle looks too steep.

The breaking news L3 on the other hand looks better because of the white box addition, instead of the solid color taking up the whole bar.

The 2nd image is way too CNN-ish.

There really wasn't anything wrong with the previous L3s and graphics.

Today is the last day for KCTV meteorologist Brett Anthony who is leaving to become Chief Meteorologist at KYTX. Brett previously worked at KSHB and at KJRH in Tulsa before returning to Kansas City.

Meanwhile, KYTX's previous chief, Joel Barnes, reported on his Twitter that he didn't stay at KYTX.  He will now be chief meteorologist at WBBJ in Jackson, TN, and get started in the next couple of weeks there.

  9. Earlier today I saw an FB post by Ashley Claster.  She is saying that the DFW area is getting a Spectrum News 1 channel starting the middle of next month.  So far I'm only finding more social media about it from her, although she claims another reporter has been hired to work with her.  Her FB post shows a picture of Ashley holding a Spectrum News microphone.  Her Twitter post shows a pic of Ashley holding a Spectrum News 1 cap and standing in front of the downtown Dallas skyline.  I'd like to hope this is true, but her posts seem to be the only thing I'm finding about a DFW news channel launch.

That's the way the NFL blackout policy worked until 2015...thankfully Green Bay always sells out so we never experienced a game blackout locally, but it always sounded embarrassing that a local TV station (this always occurred in bad Vikings years and for at least a decade, for the Lions) had to buy out blocks of tickets so they wouldn't have to carry TV offal instead of their local NFL game on a Sunday afternoon.

The main reason for the Indy blackout though is to make it an event you have to see, not just a distraction you can easily access on TV and have bars just Hoover up money with their watch parties that the track would rather have in their own pockets. This year though, you want home eyeballs live in Indy for sure on TV.

I remember back when KDFW was a CBS station, they'd buy up Dallas Cowboys tickets so there wouldn't be a blackout.  Sometimes there was anyway; many with antennas would try to swivel them around to try to pick up KXII from Sherman, or even KLTV (back in their cherry-picking days) in Tyler.

  11. New D Magazine article online interviewing Perry Sook.  I haven't read it yet to see if it's just fluffy or if it actually has some newsbits in it.
